Pushing myself

I have been working on adding more strength training each week in hopes to build a little more muscle mass. I used weights three times this week and was slightly sore after the first lift day. I take at least one recovery day and if I’m really ancy I might do a short run, nothing crazy though. So after my second lift day I wasn’t sore at all so I figured I must not have challenged myself enough. Well today I logged as I went and added at least a set or two of reps that were very challenging (is this the so called pyramid?) sandwiched between what’s more my comfort zone. I even ventured to an area of the weight room and did some back squats and deadlifts! I felt pretty awkward over there because there’s a lot of buff people who workout there, but I figure I have to get back to it somehow. Hopefully I can keep this momentum going and it will get less awkward.

Good for you. Often, getting out of that comfort zone and trying something new is the hardest part. No, it doesn’t need to hurt in order to be a good workout (but it is normal if you’re adding weight or new lifts). All you need to do is keep increasing the amount you can do for a particular lift at a particular # of reps and you’ll know you’re getting stronger.0
