Has anyone heard of or tried CLA? My trainer recommended it to help with belly fat. What do you guys think?

    Conjugated Linoleic Acid(sp?). It does help but remember its not a cure all like no pill is. Your diet and exercise will do much more to reduce fat in general which will hit your belly too.

    Conjugated Linoleic Acid has been around for about 20 years now. it is one of the more underrated supplements. usually people in the fitness and bodybuilding fields know about it.

    Actually, it has been around for way longer than 20 years............... :flowerforyou:

    Our bodies make it in small amounts, but not enough to be sufficient to burn fat at a higher rate........

    If you use grass fed beef or lamb, there are much higher amounts of CLA due to the grass feeding process. Grain fed beef doesn't have the level of CLA natural occurring that grass fed has..........

    It does help tremendously to trim fat though, along with exercise.

    I've never tried it but research shows that it has no affect on weight loss in those that maintained a low calorie or very low calorie diet. It did however improve weight maintenance.

But basically if you want to know my experience with it, I'd say I take it because I trust the studies done on it, and even if there's no weight-loss w/ regards to it, it's still a healthy fat (like the omega-3s) and it's still a good cancer preventative so as far as I'm aware there's no harm to it.

    I've taken it close to 4 months now, I've lost the weight, but I don't know how much of that can be attributed to diet & exercise as I've worked really hard to monitor my calories and go through insane workouts so really I'd be at my weight w/ or w/o CLA. Unfortunately I couldn't clone myself at the time I started taking it and told that copy to follow my exact routine and diet but not take CLA and measure body fat in the end to see if there's any difference.

    Here's what I think, it works at keeping your body fat down if you have the tendency to binge at times and overeat. I have no idea how or why, but it possibly interferes with the body's ability to store excess sugar as fat (possibly, i'm just speaking out of my bum here). If you are on a caloric deficit (ie burning more than you eat) it won't help you much at all, if you are eating more than maintenance it will help slow down the accumulation of fats stores in your body... so it might come in handy when you want to build up muscle because to really build muscle mass you need to eat over maintenance.

    How long has your plateau been for? If it's like 3-4 weeks it's not long enough for you to be too concerned. Also, is it just in weight or is it in your measurements too? I noticed when I was losing, I'd be eating w/ a deficit of 2 lbs/week and stay at the same weight for a month at times, and then all of a sudden in one week my weight would drop 4 lbs or something. Also, once I actually hit my goal, and stopped working out at such high frequency as I was doing before, my weight continued falling, even when logic would suggest that I should've plateaued or even gained.

    So I'm just saying, things are weird like that and it makes it all a bit like the weather, eventually spring comes around but there can be some really frigid days in early April.

    You can take CLA but I doubt it will anything for your plateau. It works more to keep weight the same when you overeat, it's good as a means of preventing a yo-yo dieting effect where you lose and then gain it all back.

    Serious? Your plateau has been an 8 month plateau? I don't think that it can be considered a plateau any more. I would talk to a professional about this. I think you need to change things up a little more than just adding CLA to your diet.
    I can't view your food journal to give you any suggestions there.
    But I don't think that 8 months is a normal length for a plateau.....
    Just sayin....

    Yes I swear by it lol. I use to be 265 with a gut! But if you go view my profile you will see my stomach is not a gut now. CLA works but you must use it on a regular there was no side effects for me. And I lost alot of my belly flab. Its conjugated linoleic acid. CLA does alot of things 1 I know it decreases the number and size of fat cells in your body. As I said before it works. Go research it you will see!!

    I know a couple of people that had a 2 year plateau and there was nothing wrong with them. Their bodies just didn't want to release the last bit of extra fat, which happens sometimes.

    When you lose a lot of weight, especially if you lose it fast in the beginning it will take your body a long time to adjust.
