grams

Not sure how many grams of protein, carbs and fat to have per day. I am 5'3" and need to lose about 55-65 lbs. I am 64.

Same age as you and lost 60 using MFP. I started with the defaults that MFP gave me, then as I lost most of my weight and added weight training and more cardio I tweaked the numbers a bit to allow more protein. Good luck to you!

Have you entered your goals and stats into MFP and gotten a calorie goal? The default macros should be part of that goal.

MFP default macros - 50% from carbohydrates, 20% from protein and 30% from fat

Ok, got it. Yes same %'s as kshama states. This 75 lb weight gain came out of no where these last few years. This weekend my walking buddy asked if it could possibly be post menopausal weight gain? Well I never thought about it since I was not menopausal symptomatic. But yes I think it is postmenopausal weight gain. So here goes, I'm already encouraged by your responses and helping me setup my account. Rocknut how long did it take you to lose the 60 pounds?

@Leezy55 It took me about a year. I'm struggling with maintenance right now, up a few pounds, down a few pounds. Because of my age maintenance calories are pretty low so I have to exercise a lot if I want to eat much. FYI, weight gain doesn't just come out of nowhere. We know what causes it: too many calories in and too few going out. It only took me 40 years to figure that out!

So average a lb a week, sounds reasonable. Looks like you're a hiker so a good way to stay in check health and weight wise.
