Correcting nutritional data?

I see products where the nutritional data does not match the nutritional data for the product as currently sold. Maybe it was user error, but just as likely that the product has been reformulated. Is there a way to correct an entry or do I just need to make a new food name with the month/year appended to highlight that this is more recent?

I think you can mark it as inaccurate but it will just inform someone somewhere, but won't actually change anything. When I find that food is incorrect, I create my own food with the updated information.

Yeah, manufacturers change their product information all the time. I have 2 different "generations" of the same protein powder, and the newer container has 4 calories less per serving than the older container. The calorie difference is the only change I can see.

In addition, I have come across what appeared to be regional differences in listings of product nutritional info. I live in the west. Visiting family on the Florida coast, same product packaging, with comparable sell by dates, but with slightly different calorie and macro counts.

Foods like produce and meats, fowl, fish, etc., it just depends on the site they got the information from and how accurate that is/was.

For those reasons, I use what matches the USDA site or create my own listing using that site. While it may not be any more accurate, at least I am being consistent.

I usually enter a food and put the year by it so when it changes which they often do people know when it was put on.

I'm also finding that a lot of entries are apparently showing net carbs, which really messes me up. Systems-wise, I wish MFP would go through and identify every entry where fiber grams > carbohydrate grams because that is by definition not possible. If folks put entries in that way it would be really helpful if they were labeled net carbs. It takes me way longer than it should to find accurate entries. :(

Actually, if you click on the incorrect button in the nutritional information (other than for green-checked "verified" entries), you will be prompted to correct the information.
