How many calories do you think this drink has?

Hey guys!

This is kind of a random question. But I recently found this juice/smoothie bar near me and they have amazing juices and smoothies, but there are no calories listed!

I've been getting this drink (which has consistency of a smoothie) called the Cashew Cacao. The ingredients are: Raw Cashews, Vanilla Bean, Cacao, Moringa Leaf, Dates, and Himalayan Pink Salt. It comes in a 16 oz (473 ml) bottle. Could anyone give me even a ballpark estimate of how many calories it could be? Like even just in what hundreds range it would be? Like 400-something, 500-something?

The drink kept me full for hours if that says anything, but I have no idea how low or high the calories could be. Any help would be appreciated!

This would be very hard to guess because cashews are high in calories (about 190 calories per 1/4 cup). Dates are about 50 calories per 1 date. The rest of the ingredients are not really bulky, so if it's a smoothie consistency you would expect quite a few calories from cashews and dates. Can be anywhere from 400 to 800. Does it contain any thickeners?

I use ingredient combinations to make my own versions of things like that.... Then I know how much of each ingredient is included, and it's a lot cheaper :)

Good idea! It's crazy expensive too - $8.75 for one bottle! I have to limit myself to only 1-2 per week :#

That's what I was thinking. There must be a lot of cashews and dates, because it kept me full for like 5 hours no joke, and I never get full off of smoothies. No thickeners that I know of, those were all the ingredients listed on the bottle and website

I agree with the suggestion of making your own. You could also sub some (not a lot) of the cashews with soaked oats to thicken for fewer calories. You could experiment until you get the taste and consistency you like. The price makes sense if you're using a lot of cashews, but then again, they could be marking the price up substantially.

Google is our friend! For Cashew Cacao I got the following info for 16 ounces, with similar ingredients (included a banana): Nutritional Content
    Calories (kcal) 510 Fat (g) 18 Saturated Fat (g) 3.5 Cholesterol (mg) 0 Carbohydrates (g) 88 Dietary Fiber (g) 11 Total Sugars (g) 49 Protein (g) 11 Sodium (mg) 250
OP had a fairly good estimate!

Yeah, but bananas are better thinkers than dates, so it could be anything. I really hate drinks for that reason, you just can't ballpark them right unless you make them yourself.

Looks similar to this recipe. Yours also has cacao, but unless they're using a really large amount of cacao, most of your shake's calories are going to come from the cashews and dates. I'd put this one into the recipe builder and use half the recipe as my estimate: http://www.edibleperspective.com/home/2014/11/10/vanilla-bean-cashew-cream-milkshakes.html

Thank you for finding this!!! I think around 510 probably sounds reasonable
