Hi there! Like most of you here I am working to lose weight and get healthier, but I came to that decision in a round about way. (sorry if this is long)
A few years ago I got a stomach virus unbeknownst to me , I just felt horrible and had a nagging cough. Months went on, then a year and the cough was AWFUL, I'd stop breathing randomly. I bounced from doctor to doctor and they convinced me even though I had quit smoking years before that I had COPD etc and I was stuck....to take some inhalers and go home. This went on for ages, until one doctor finally found the cause: A stomach virus was making stomach acid go into my lungs! After several years of being sick I was finally on the mend after a hospitalization and tons of work. ( FYI:The virus was from food poisoning, called H Pylori)
This whole time if I ate my cough got worse from stomach acid coming up, so I became phobic about eating, I ended up losing 30 pounds without meaning to. Today I'm finally at a place I can eat a somewhat normal portion size but I still have a few really bad days. I figured since I am already losing weight and that I was down 30 pounds why not keep going? I started out at 263, today I am 202, and eating the healthiest I ever have (though I confess to a gummi bear addiction). I now like fruit and veggies!
I started out just trying to get back to my normal, but I've changed my goal...I want to be the BEST I can be. I want to fit into normal clothes again (to me that's about a size 8-10), I want to not lose my breath, I want to go hiking again. So far I am amazing myself. There's no secret, I just try to stay close to CICO, exercise a little, and be kind to myself. I cook 99% of my own meals, drink water and not soda, and allow small cheats. It's a slow but exciting process!
Oh...and I am obsessed with my BONES! Who knew that under all that fat were hipbones, and a collarbone! I honestly thought my ribs were lower then they are, but now I can feel them!
