Question for glasses wearers

I've started wearing glasses full time at the end of last year. I just bought some new glasses, and they're on the tight side, and I'm trying to wear them for a few hours a day to loosen them up.

I was wondering, when you lose weight, does anyone find that their glasses fit better or get looser at all?

I had to get mine tightened after losing 50 lbs.

I think you'll find that your glasses are going to loosen on their own over time regardless of weight loss.

Your glasses will loosen slightly over time. You can also get ones with sprung hinges which are more conformable and loosen less (my last pair didn't and loosened loads, whereas my current pair do, and haven't loosened at all. But they do fit me very well)

The frames should be tight around the ears to hold it on your face, if they're tight anywhere else then you might have the wrong size frame.
Also if it is painful (as opposed to uncomfortable) after a short period of time, that isn't normal, and will need adjusting.

The good news is that most reputable opticians will adjust your glasses free of charge (so long as you bought them from them)

Edit and actually reading your post again: I doubt wearing them a little bit a day will loosen them up enough, if at all. It's also probably not good for your eyes (unless your prescription is the same) And unless you've got a lot of spare fat in your face I doubt it'll make much difference

If your glasses are painful, go ask the optician to adjust them. Wearing them a little at a time won't fix it, even if it's your eyes. My glasses always hurt around my left ear and I usually suffer for 3-4 days before go back to beg for help. This time I mentioned it when I picked them up and the optician adjusted them, no problems.

I have lost weight in my face/head. I don't have as much spread in my bows compared to the main lenses frame. I've also learned I've gone down at least 1 hat size.

Thanks, everyone :) I have three pairs in this prescription. I have one pair that was slightly tight, but loosened up with regular wear. The two new pairs are tight around the ears, so I've picked one of those pairs to wear for a few hours a day, and when they get too tight around the ears, I take them off and put my first pair back on. I was planning to do the same with the third pair, once I've broken in the second pair. But it sounds as though I'd be better off getting them loosened by an optometrist. I'm overweight, but not obese, so wasn't sure how any weight loss would effect it or not.

Mine are sort of springy so that, when I was heavier, I stretched the arms apart. When I lost the weight I don’t stretch them at all.

Some people do find that their prescription changes due to loss of fat in the eye affecting the lens. I was hopeful but mine didn’t change

The skull had only skin over it behind my ears even when I was 65 pound heavier. No change in how my glasses fit.

Depends on how much you lose I suppose.
I'd just take the glasses wherever you bought them and see if they can be adjusted though

I lost 100 pounds and my frames are very wide for my face now. I wear contacts most of the time, so it doesn’t really bother me. I think you would have to lose a pretty substantial amount of weight *and* your genetics would have to cause you to lose that weight in your face. We can’t control where our bodies take the fat from.

I don't even need vision correction but I'm all in favor of getting them adjusted now because now is when they are uncomfortable.
