Hello. So, I feel carbs have gotten a bad wrap as I've been growing up. Hearing "carbs make you fat" my whole life has made me regret enjoying a nice sandwich or mama's roasted potatoes. There's always so many posts concerning weight loss about low carb, high carb, no carb, blah blah blah. What's the truth? Am I supposed to try and avoid carbs to lose weight? Currently my MFP stats are female 5'2 21 yr (22 next week :) 158lbs and I get 1300 cals a day with my macros being 114g carb & protein, and 44g fat. Is 114g of carbs each day too much? Is it too little? I need help! Also, my goal is to lose 1lb a week

My initial reaction was that you must be barely 20. ;) Growing up, I was taught the opposite: fat is evil. LOL

Higher carb diets seem to make weight loss slightly harder for those with IR and metabolic syndrome. For everyone else, carbs make no difference.

I eat @ 200g carbs a day. I only ever had 15-20 lbs to lose, and when I decided to lose it, the way I eat worked just fine.

Calories are king for weight loss/gain.
Macros can affect satiety, which can make it easier/harder to stick to your cal goal, but different %s work for different people.

I love carbs and average about 200g per day. I’ve lost over 20kg now.

I weigh and log everything I eat, making sure I stay in a deficit. This is the most important factor in weight loss- not whether or not you restrict a certain type of food.

Some people find that restricting certain types of food helps them to stay in a deficit, but at the end of the day, if a deficit is created, and you stay in a deficit, you will lose weight.

My carb intake is around 250g on average. Somedays it is 100g others 300g+. I keep my carbs higher to help with my workout performance.

For some reducing carbs can help regulate cravings, reduce appetite, health reasons and help them get into a calorie deficit. But finding a way of eating that works for you is the best plan.

There is nothing wrong with carbs in the slightest.

As long as you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

Eat enough protein and fat. Do not worry about carbs. Carbs can go high or low depending on a person's preference.
