Weight Training / weight gain

Hello,

I walk approx 11-15km every day. About 1 month ago I joined a gym and started to strength train. I’m usually under my daily calorie goal but somehow I’ve gained a few lbs? Any ideas why.

Yeah, nowhere near enough information to be able to advise.

Height, weight, goal, period of time in maintenance, daily calorie target, eating plan (ie keto, CICO alone, 16:8 etc)?

I’m guessing you’ve already read the recommended stickie posts about why weight loss isn’t linear? Lots of good points that also applies to maintenance too.

"Usually under" means what? (What happens when you are over, a lot or a little?)
    A few lbs means what?
Calorie goal is to maintain weight I assume as you have posted in the maintaining weight forum?

    Two possible reasons:
Over-estimating your calorie burn from the strength training.
Fluid retention from the soreness from starting a new exercise routine.

Are you taking creatine? Answer the above questions and maybe they can help you.

If you're usually under your calorie goal then it's water retention. If you're accidentally going over your calorie goal while strength training then it could be fat and muscle gain (they come as a pair unfortunately). It may be some newbie gains and a bit of water. Hard to say tbh
