When to increase weight?

I am doing M&S Starting strong program and am on week 4. I have been increasing weight when I hit 12 reps for 3 straight sets. For some exercises I am doing hitting 12 on first set and then 11 or 10 the second and third set

Question is should I just increase the weight if I am close to the max # of reps per set

If the protocol says, 3x12=increase, then don't increase until you hit 3x12.

Follow the programmed progression. Trust the program.

Don't even think about messing with the program until you've been at it for 6 months.

I'm not familar of the program but if you chose to do a program that will make you stronger in the 12 rep range, then you shouldn't deviate from what will make you stronger in the 12 rep range.

Allow adaptation to run its course and have patience.

If you want to take short cuts, you will stall out pretty quick.

As others have said follow the program and its recommended time to increase.

If you weren't following a program and doing your own thing, then I would say if you can get 3 or more sets of 5 or more reps you would be fine to increase weight. This is just based on what works for me, if I met the above criteria I lift heavier next time be it 5-10 lbs increase.

Again though if you are following a program increase your weights when it advises you to do so,
