A sturdy fitness device for a man who works in the trades?

My husband is an electrician and basically works outside all day everyday...dirt, sweat, etc.

He's been on a weight loss journey since the beginning of the year, and I thought maybe a fitbit/tracker of some kind would be a good fathers day present.

I love how my fitbit charge hr links up to mfp and the app on my phone. it would be handy for his to show incoming calls, texts, etc.

Any suggestions for something that might actually be able to hold up?

    What's your price point.

Garmin makes devices in almost every price point that will almost certainly stand up to his lifestyle.

I'd suggest the Vivoactive line(120-230). The VA1 has a very low form factor and so far has stood up to everything. There are a variety of band options that will work with whatever his needs are regarding worksite safety. Alternately you could look at something in the Fenix/935 range which are a bit bulkier and in the 400-600 price range.

I'm familiar with those who work on high voltage power lines. Most of them do not wear wedding rings or a watch for safety reasons, getting caught or hung up on the equipment, so on. Does he want one?

Thanks. I didn't emphasize that point quite as much as I had intended.

Safety is first, and if you need something like that you'd need to make sure it would be beneficial.

Misfit makes a device that can be worn on a collar or ankle, but it's much more minimalistic than a watch. although it will tell time.

I love my Misfit Shine. I've been using it for over 3 years. Waterproof to 8' or so, doesn't need to be recharged and looks pretty cool, as well. You do have to have a smartphone or tablet to sync it & track steps. The battery lasts about 3-4 months depending on how often you sync. They've had some sales lately, so price point is very reasonable. Also, if it ever leaks or breaks they are SUPER good & fast with replacements.

Yeah, he never wears a wedding band. Metal is not good with electricity, and yes you also don't want them to get caught on anything and yank a finger or something off. I did buy him one of those Qalo bands for his bday, but it ended up slipping off and getting lost. But those were nice b/c they are designed to withstand oils, dirt, etc...and also tear apart if you get hung up. I will have to ask if he is allowed to wear a watch type thing. I don't want to spend more than $200ish. Just not sure if anything will truly hold up.

I'm guessing the answer is going to be no.

Tangent: Amazon sells bulk silicone bands at $20 for like 4 or 5 in various colours or just plain flat black.

I bought an XL band and fit it around my ankle. It is fairly secured under my socks. I have the issue of realizing how tiny my hands and wrists were after losing a lot of weight - women's small sizes are too big for me. I can wear child sized watches.
