Co-worker “detoxing”

I believe the general consensus of this thread is that a dessert bar at work tomorrow is called for. Ballots will be cast afterward to determine whether cake, pie, or brownies are the superior dessert.11

Or bring in something really delicious like pie which is far superior to cake. But don't skip acting out the death scene...
Brownie trumps all these things....
Brownies trump cake but they are still one note texturally. A pie has a crust.
Nuts, chocolate chips...so many things you can put in them but even without it they put the smackdown on pie any day.
You don't often get brownies with nuts in... stupid people with nut allergies
Yeah, a lot of places don't sell them.
Walnut brownies are my favorite. I like to make my own and undercook them so they're very gooey.3 -
Lead by example, you do what works for you. Ignore the rest, possibly one day you'll be asked how on earth did you do it?
I had that conversation last week, someone in the work building plucked up the courage to ask me if I've lost weight. " I see you every day and haven't noticed", yip I'm 6" smaller. Oh how did you do it? - at this point you can assume they are more engaging.
The thought of weighing turned her off, but we found common ground with walking. So much so the next day she looked out for me to tell me she had been inspired to walk to work. I still get a daily wave, but do suspect the walking part has lessened.
Let them wonder what have you got they haven't.5 -

I have a peanut allergy, but that's why pecans exist! A brownie isn't a brownie without nuts. Same with fudge! XD
I love me a good brownie. But I also love me a good pie.
Apple pie with a bit of vanilla bean ice cream...0 -

I assume you mean crunchy since smooth would be the same texture.
Pies can be savory or sweet. They can also be FRIED. They are more versatile as-is.
Not in the ones I make, peanut butter isn't the same consistency as brownie batter
Texture is like a crunch element against something soft. Smooth peanut butter and the finished brownie are both soft.Walnut brownies are my favorite. I like to make my own and undercook them so they're very gooey.
Pies can be gooey without being under-cooked.

You've obviously never had a cake sammich with a pinch of pie.
You lost me at the word cake.
There's just no accounting for some people's lack of taste1 -

I do enjoy a good pecan pie but the sweetness usually overshadows the crust. I don't really care for pie crust nor do I like the fruit fillings. My husband would agree with you though and have pie any day. But then, he doesn't like peanut butter so his food choices are dubious.
ETA: I am more than happy to make other folks pie and a little (or not) brownie for myself.1 -
Nanaimo bars trump brownies any day...7

Why is there brownie and pie talk with no actual brownies or pies?3

I am now considering where I can take brownies so that I have an excuse to bake some...ideally one batch chocolate, one batch butterscotch.2

I also add nuts to brownies and undercook them.2 -

You're invited to my house, I'll gladly take some brownies off of your hands.4 -

No cookie love in this thread is surprising.

I tried looking for some, and it just made me hungry. I could order pizza from a place that has brownie desserts, but that seems like a bad idea considering I'm just getting back on track again.3 -

I love how someone's sugar "detox" has inspired so many other to come together in their love of desserts. Well done.7

I bring up the facts - people have been existing quite well on a massively variable diet since the dawn of mankind. We are living longer and with less disease than ever before. We have adapted to survive with little, now we are faced with adapting with abundance.7

Derby pie: pecan pie with bourbon to cut the sweetness

I should have said “because ” the sweetness overshadows the crust. I like the sweetness. I have had it with burbon too though and it is wonderful!0 -

Oddly, I had a discussion with her a couple of months ago about weight loss. I have lost a large amount of weight (80 pounds now). I don’t like to talk about it, because I am pretty private at work and because I know how people can be once you get into the subject of weight loss and food. She was going to the shake places at the time (Herbalife?). She wanted to know how I was being so successful and staying the course for so long. I talked about CICO and that this is not a diet. This is my life. You have to balance CICO forever, not just while you are losing, or it will be for nothing. (I have finally learned. ) No forbidden or evil foods. I thought she really heard me. But I think as is typical, she wants an easier answer, a magic bullet. And I guess sugar being toxic is it. For this week anyhow.
I like the dessert ideas (and debate about what is the tastiest)! 😄8
