Recovery drink necessary?

Is it critical to drink a recovery drink or eat within a hour of your workout? Can you wait 2-3 hours or would there be negative effects to doing so? I don’t feel like I am hungry until after I shower and get ready and get to work, so I sometimes feel it’s a waste of calories that i have to take out of my day just to drink one. I am still hungry right when I get to work 2-3 hours after anyways so i honestly would prefer to wait and forgo the whole recovery drink thing but, I keep doing it just in case. Any input?
Let me add that i do Chalean Extream so I do both cardio and lifting.

they say that your body is best able to receive nutrients it needs to refuel and re build, right after working out. you should actually do it sooner than an hour, i've heard 30 mins max.0

Ditto to last poster... I subscribe to the "within 30 mins" idea. Especially if you are doing weights, you need protein into your system soon after a workout, and many serious weight-trainers make that meal their biggest of the day. I'm kinda lucky in that I work at home and have a bit of flexibility with my hours, so I work out at lunchtime and then eat as soon as I get home including a protein shake.0

it, helps alot when your cutting your calories and your working out hard .untill your body gets use to it. if you dont you will fill like you crash and burned:grumble: been theri done that myself along time ago. now i have to do it again:sad:0

The body immediately starts to repair following exercise. This is why they say to give your body a good balance of carbs and protein 30-60 minutes following exercise. This is when the body will benefit the greatest.
Even if you don't feel hungry, still have a recovery meal/drink. I find that it actually makes me hungry soon after because your metabolism is raised. Studies have also shown that people may not feel as full with drinking a meal as opposed to eating solid food. So even if you're not feeling hungry a recovery drink shouldn't make you feel any different.0 -
Thanks everyone!! i will continue to drink them then!0

When I was doing P90X I would have a glass of 1% chocolate milk. It was less calories and I found more satisfying.0
