Fluctuations

Hi
Just wondered how people deal with fluctuations. I have been logging consistently, losing consistently this time round, keeping within my calorie allowance and meeting my macros. Regardless from Thursday I have been increasing in weight. So far I’m up 1.8lbs.
I know that’s not the end of the world but I find it so demoralising. I also realise it’s probably water weight or I’ve ate something with high salt content or whatever as no way have I ate an additional 6000 calories.
Last time this happened it was almost 4-5 weeks before things reverted back to normal and I got a small whoosh.
Sorry probably a pointless post just down thinking about the likelihood that it’s probably happening again, another lengthy plateau.

Understand that fluctuation means up, and then then down.3

Thanks that it does, need to not let it mess with my head0

4-5 weeks doesn't really sound like a water weight fluctuation. Is your average weekly weight loss keeping pace with what you have MFP set for? If not, you need to give attention to the accuracy of your logging and perhaps reduce the number of exercise calories you eat back, if you have been doing so.1

Hi the 4-5 week plateau was on my last cut. I’m just not looking forward to it if this is something similar as it completely demoralised me. This time it’s been quite consistent so far with 1.4-2lb week loss.
I’m working on a tdee basis and have been losing weight at 2200 calories on average for the last 5 weeks. I record everything, even olive oil I use to cook with or butter on bread.
My workouts are 3 days hit cardio and 3 days weight lifting with solid state cardio, as well as that say 4-5 mile walks per day with the dog.
I was just having a wee moan tbh as this time I use a daily weight tracker, the 1.8lb increase has put me at more than what I was a week ago. I really just want to shred fat.
I’m sorry it’s just a pointless post as was feeling down and making me think what’s the point but I suppose it’s good to hear how other people deal with little blips.0 -
The way I dealt with it was to weigh daily and log it in Happy Scale trending app. This helped me learn about my body’s fluctuations, to the point I could predict them (and not due to TOM as I’m
Post menopausal.) I logged each new low in MFP. THere is absolutely no reason to feel demoralized about normal body fluctuations. It’s like getting demoralized when the weather changes every day. Overall you still see a downward trend. Fluctuations continue into maintainence and are even more pronounced because they’re not offset by ongoing losses.2 -
I use a trend weight app and other ways to measure progress (measurements, mirror, photos, gym performance, how clothes fit etc). When I see scale progress and no actual physical results is actually when I get super discouraged. But I keep sticking with it and eventually it all comes together.1

Thanks all, today’s a new day so will give myself a shake and get on with it.
I haven’t actually been keeping measurements other than weight but that’s a good idea so will start tracking that as well.0
