Has anyone ever tried using Splenda when making these.

I haven't. Real sugar all the way. Most of my recipes come in at 25-40 calories apiece, so with no medical reason to restrict my sugar intake, I just go with what my recipes call for (which is usually granulated, sometimes confectioners', but always sugar).1

Erythritol plus cream of tartar when I am watching carbs. Otherwise, sugar and cream of tartar ( I was taught to use both in HomeEc @10 years old ... I still use the same technique today).1
