Being in my 40’s you would think one would have an established group of friends by now. I have a group of 4 girlfriends who I love dearly but they flake on me all the time. We all plan things, dinners, activities, weekends away, etc.. and more times than not multiple people bail and I end up sitting home alone. So do you completely write off these people and be friendless or put up with their shenanigans? The easy thing would be to get new friends but that’s extremely difficult when you are in your 40’s and single.

Are these friends of yours single as well?1

Yes I do and her name's Tiffany.2

Are your friends single too? Why would you give up on those that you care about?1

Nope. I have ex-friend that were like that. It's less overall stress and new friends aren't that difficult to make (I'm in my 40's as well), once you go do things you enjoy.2

I had a group of friends through 20s-early 30s. Had to cut them all loose. I'm approaching 40s with a more reliable group of friends. The flaking gets old.1

Yes..a couple weeks ago I was supposed to meet my friend from high school at a bar to see a band play..I hadn't been out to a bar/club since my birthday in January..so I was kinda excited..I got there looking for her..never found her..I was there 2 hours before she even responded to my text & she said her & her boyfriend fell asleep..ugh! if you're laying down for a nap & have plans, set an alarm! I was so mad..I stayed til the band ended & left..7

One is single, the others are married.1

I have a very close circle of really good friends. Most of the time things work out when we have plans, but we're all busy and all have kids, etc...so sometimes stuff just happens.
I have a handful of friends that are on a slightly lower tier...it can be more hit or miss when we have plans...we're just not quite as close, but I'd say even then, it's more like 80/200 -
I totally understand what you are saying. Several of us make fun plans but on the date, I find out that "they" decided to go to the movies instead, without letting me know. It makes the term 'friends' a little bit hard to understand. I am trying to notice who in the group really are what I used to call my true friend. I am afraid I have not found the answer yet. This type of friends may linger on with you but are they really worth your time? And by the way, I still get my feelings hurt and get left behind and I am 69 years old! Somethings never change.5

Life, can often be a single player experience. Hoping for a multi-player experience, can often leave you missing out on the best 1 player action ever.2

This makes sense, probably with kids as well? If you are sitting home alone, search for people that have similar interests, join groups etc. But kicking the friends you do have to the curb because they bail on events seems harsh as having friends you trust and love are very hard to come by.
You just need some other things in your life to keep you from being lonely, etc.0 -

Kids shouldn’t be an excuse to bail on commitments and plans made unless it’s unforeseen circumstances. That being said, we’re talking about cancelling plans on multiple occasions, not just a one time thing.6

Friends don't let friends down unless it is an emergency. You make an arrangement you honour that arrangement. Too many people cancel plans they have made so they can go do something else with someone else.
If I am so insignificant that you forget you were going to meet me, or someone else is so much more interesting to be with that you drop me, then you are not my friend.

My friends are the worst, they never cancel when I wish they would7
