If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

There's no set challenge across participants - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group. Just pick your own target that you want to achieve this month, post that when you join the thread, and post updates throughout the month as you're working towards your target.

Bring on July!

(BTW - Thanks to @CricketKate for starting all this back in 2012)

I got 7 miles in this morning riding with my children to the park. I may never have a free ride again now that my children have the bug. The ride to the park was only 1.6 miles, so 3.2 roundtrip. I managed to drag it out to 7 by riding around parking lots while waiting for my walking teenagers to catch up.

    July 2 - 3 city miles
    July 5 - 11 country miles
I'm riding a second hand mountain bike mainly on potholed country roads. I hate not having a destination so I try to build one into each outing, even if it's only a market to replenish my supply of bike snacks. This month I have some better destinations though - an archaeological dig which happens in our county, a church which serves teas, a farm shop where you can visit their (pet) animals where I get my veg. Each outing feels like a different kind of freedom from when I'm driving a car.

July 1 - 13 miles, plus about 5 miles around town which included an ice cream break lol

    July 3 - 9 miles
    July 4 - 15 miles, slow

Conquered the 13 mile (round trip) trail I have been riding and explored a few miles to find another. Hoping to get in a few rides that direction in the next week or two!

Late to the party this month. Been on vacation the last week. Got to ride a new trail twice. Once by myself and the second time my brother in law, his girlfriend and her son joined me. Awesome trail! I will definitely ride this one more. Tough trail with lots of climbing but the downhills made it worth it! 10 miles both trips.

    July 3rd: 10 miles trail
    July 7th: 10 miles trail

Planning a group ride to the " Plains of Abraham Ape Canyon Trail ", on Friday July 13th in Washington State. This is a chance to ride up a volcano in a beautiful area. We are meeting at the trail head at 14:00. Bring lots of water because it will be hot and dry. Bring your climbing legs because it's around 16 miles round trip with 2500 ft of elevation gain. If anyone is interested feel free to message me. Check out the loop on Trailforks or Singletracks for directions and trail descriptions. Its always more fun to workout as a group and always fun to meet new people with common interests. I do have a couple spare bikes if you live in the area but don't have your own bike.

Here's a couple pics of the area for motivation to come.

Are you familiar with the polarized training concept?

Heard of it. Don't know much about it. Why do you ask?

Basically it’s a way of training where you polarize your training intensities. You are suppposed to ride very easy on your easy days and really really hard on you hard days. Hard is like 90% of max HR minimum for 40 total minutes a week (spread out between 2/3 workouts). Obviously you warm up and cool down on hard days.

Looking for a 80 easy/20 hard work out split.

When stated that you were sore from riding harder it reminded me of that idea. If you do polarized training correctly you have to go easy on the easy as you are sore and tired after the hard.

Lots of research to back this up....especially in cycling.

I don't do any sort of "training".

Right now, my riding is mainly stress relief, and because I don't normally do anything remotely like sprints, and haven't done since my racing days nearly 20 years ago, I think part of what I'm experiencing is simply DOMS. I've just recently started using Zwift and just ignored the sprints at first, but then my competitive spirit kicked in!!

The other factor is fatigue in general because of the situation with my husband, and the amount of walking I do every day carrying a heavy backpack. I think it all kind of caught up with me.

In my case, that's 27 km/h I'm all excited about.

July has been totally shot for me. Not riding near as much as I wanted. Haven’t tracked my diet in a couple weeks. Time to get back on track!

9.2 mile road ride today. Mix of gravel and paved.

    July 3: 10 miles trail
    July 7: 10 miles trail
    July 15: 9.2 miles road

This week I've felt like Monty Python's Bicycle Repair Man...
Started the week with one road bike running OK but in need of a service after 4,500 miles.
Other road bike had a broken gear change cable.
One hybrid was usable but wouldn't change down to the granny ring.
Other hybrid was off the road as some scum bag stole the front wheel and stalking eBay for a replacement has proved fruitless.

And then an idiotic moment driving my car under a height restriction barrier when I had my two road bikes on the roof sent them crashing along the road.....
Aaaaarrrrrrggggh!! The irony was that this was the first and only time I had ever loaded my two best bikes on the roof together.

Luckily no major damage but spent the week fixing all four bikes up.
Test rides, training rides and shopping for bike bits rides gave me 139 miles for the week.

Mostly wearing my Castelli "string vest" as the heatwave continues in southern England.

First century after shoulder surgery 20 mos ago and one checked off the bucket list. Not the best showing but got it done. Back to dieting to drop the 10+# gain after shoulder surgery.
