Feeling low today... I've been good and lost 3lbs then was good and gained that 3 back then was good and today list 1lb ... I'm happy I lost the 1lb but it seems eating and exercising isn't helping...

I have 8 stone to lose and ultimately this is effecting my self esteem too (which isn't helped by my depression and anxiety)

Would it be worth going to the Drs as I gain even when I'm good??? I've been dieting for years and on average lose 1lb a month...

Perhaps adjust your expectations and understand your bodyweight fluctuates constantly. If the 3lb up and down was in a short period of time, that is totally normal, you can be up and down 5lbs and more from one day to the next just from your body working normally, but that's water weight, your aim is to lose fat not water.

To lose weight you need to be consistently in a calorie deficit:

How accurately are you logging your calorie intake (not at all/guessing/cups & spoons or food scale)?

Are you using correct entries (there are a lot of inaccurate/generic entries that do not have the correct values)?

What do you consider being good? With over 100lbs to lose you should have no issue losing fat if you're logging accurately and being patient.

Define 'good'? How long have you been good for? Have some friends on MFP, open your diary, weigh everything at the initial stages unless it comes in pre-weighed pack and give it a few weeks.

I had at least 65lbs to lose, lost some, gained it back, lost some, gained even more, etc., etc. The key is understanding it is a lifestyle change, you will need to change your shopping habits, exercising habits (or in my case get and exercising habit). It is not a case of being 'good' for a few weeks, it is a mindset, creating different routines that will help you start on this journey.

Having seen people sign up to the gym, buy all the gear and three months later I am with them in Costa and they have a 3 syrup latte and rocky road cake having not seen the gym for 3 weeks. Nothing changed for them, they weren't ready for it, nothing wrong with, they will know when they desire weight loss more than the coffee and cake.

You’ve gotten good advice so far. Consider this- change the way you think about your approach to weight loss. Try to establish some helpful habits and routines.

Drop the idea of being good. You’re as good as you are regardless of your weight. Good/bad doesn’t have anything to do with weight loss. Bad people do stuff like swindle old folks out of their life savings. Plenty of thin criminals in the world.

Plan your week. Some plans are better, more effective than others. Then try to work your plan. Weight loss is complex and there are many opportunities for mistakes and missteps. Our plans are sometimes inadequate, we lose concentration, get stressed, tired, even make math mistakes, or misread menus or labels. Lots of ways to make mistakes- none of them equate with being bad. Just human.
