My first day on here today and I’m craving chocolate cake and hot vanilla custard! How do I kick the craving! Rainy cold stormy weather makes me hungry!

You will always have cravings. The clue is to, over time, not eat too much. To do that, you have to eat enough, and food you like.

Can I save my calories I don’t use and use them later? I have 300kj left today and that’s not including what I added from exercise

I call that the rebellion effect. When you start a diet with the idea that you will have less of something, you want more of it. The more restriction you're planning the stronger the effect. Vanilla custard is pretty tame on calories, about roughly 1 calorie per gram I believe? Even less if made with lower fat milk. In fact, it could easily fit into most calorie allowances every single day.

If what you want is the combination of chocolate cake and custard, then save calories for it for the next few days. By the time you have enough calories to fit it in, you may or may not still want it, but you'll have the calories if you do.

you should be eating back exercise cals, otherwise you run the risk of under eating.

Many people look at the calorie goal over a week rather than each individual day. They often eat a bit less everyday over the week to allow for a little more on the weekend when they are more likely to socialise.

Off topic ... cold, wet, kilojoules..... are you a fellow Aussie?

Yes i agree - what i would call the forbidden fruit effect.

Best answer IMO is to 'un-forbid' it - allow yourself anything you want as long as it fits your calorie allowance..
of course that does mean you will have to have some things less frequently or in smaller portions - but you can plan for that, rather than have the thing off limits completely.

and yes IMO looking at weekly calories helps with that, rather than expecting every day to be under - ie save some calories some days for treats on other days.

Yes, that's a better name for it. I often imagine a rebellious teenager living in my head that has the attitude "you're not the boss of me, I'll do what I want" and loses interest in wanting something all the time if it's not forbidden because it's no longer cool.

    Kiwis unite!!!
For the record, I have weight watchers custard as I can fit it into my calorie allowance easier. And chocolate cake can fit too... if you make it fit!
FYI- Fibre One Brownies are great when you need a a chocolate fix!
