If I split up my workout over the day, will I still get the same results?

For example, let's say one day I am doing 4 sets of chest press, if I split that into 2 sets in the morning and 2 sets at night, would I still get the same results as if I did them all in one go?

I believe muscle development is about time under tension so I imagine it would be fine. Lots of people with better knowledge here though and I’m sure one will be along shortly...

Nope. Four sets is not the same as being sets twice. Uses the same muscles / groups, but as you fatigue it uses other fibers of that muscle. Note you can also "change" but using the same exercises but altering the tempo, etc.

    Second that^^

Also, I would think that to the extent the first two reps were a challenge, you would be disrupting the recovery process by repeating the exercise at the end of the day -- similar to the problem with not taking a rest & recovery day between workouts (or between workouts of a particular muscle group, although I'm not a big fan of doing separate workouts for different body parts, unless you've got a particular reason to do so, like a rehabbing goal or trying to essentially train some smaller muscles in an effort to get a particular aesthetic result for competition, etc.)

    No.
What are you hoping to achieve by splitting it up?
