weights for beginner

Hey I've been advised to start adding some weights to my running when on rest days. How should I start. I dnt go to the gym. What will I need..relatively cheap as well would be good. Are kettle bells good !!! Thanks guys x

    A dumbbell would do just fine. However, running with weights is only recommended for short distances as running is already a high impact activity. Weights would also affect your natural balance so you would be forcing your arms to swing synchronously with your legs. It might actually harm you if you do not master it.

    If you don't want to invest in equipment/head to a gym, body weight exercises are a great way to go (and will benefit you as a runner). Focus on core strength for better running alignment/posture. Leg exercises are a no-brainer, but consider some jumping HIIT moves if you want to improve speed/balance.

    If overall fitness is your goal, any weight lifting routine can be beneficial, but if your focus is running, your time would be better spent doing exercises that will directly benefit your running power/speed/etc.
