I've just recently bought a slow cooker and had my first attempt at a whole chicken today.
What do you cook in yours?

By the way, I would take that chicken carcass and roast it in the oven to brown the bones. Then I’d add it back in the juices left in the pot with a bay leaf and let it simmer a few more hours. Strain. Stock.4

Have not used mine it in a while. A frequent dish, I put a half cup of vinegar in it, some onion, garlic, liquid smoke and a pork butt that has been rubbed with spices. Put it on about 6am, let it cook on low until dinner.
It makes tender pulled pork. Seriously you don't need much liquid. I have used coke, and root beer as well but as a person who like Carolina Pulled Pork the vinegar is perfect.
I have cooked a small turkey in it, and some five bean soups.0 -

Nothing. Never use it. I do all of my slow cooking on the stove or in the oven.
Inherited it from my mother. Keep it for sentimental value and in case I might ever need to use it but that's unlikely.0 -
Just about anything. I have a Cooking Light slow cooker book that I use on days when I know I won't be home in time to get dinner going, or for faster recipes, when I want my late afternoon free before dinner (Sundays, usually). I LOVE my slow cooker.1

Beef hind shank, cheap lean cut of beef, but tender when cooked in a slow cooker 😀0

Most recently, I make yogurt with mine. Previously, I cooked a big old pork shoulder in it. Sometimes, when the mood strikes, I make a big batch of beans and rice.0

This won't help you because I don't cook but I do make on thing in the crockpot. Boneless skinless chicken breasts in some water with some Accent flavoring sprinkled on.
I only mention it because I'm really proud of the fact I haven't poisoned myself yet.2 -
You really don't want to ask me because I am extremely prejudiced against them.0

Today I cooked bones and made some awesome stock. I save bones in a zip lock bag in the freezer until it's time to make stock. I've tried many times to do this on the stove top, but it is much more consistent in the slow cooker.
(Note: if you don't add salt to your stock, it will taste weird and you might think something is wrong with it, which there is - no salt.)0 -
Mississippi Pot Roast. Best thing ever!!!! 4lb beef roast. 2 tbsp oil. 1 packet of dry ranch dressing mix. 1 package of dry lipton onion soup mix. 1 stick of butter(not margarine) and 8 pepperoncinis. Throw it all in, turn it on low and come back in 6-8 hours to deliciousness.1

The bone stock that I made on the stove top was always cloudy until I realized that allowing the stock to boil was reason why it was always cloudy. Now that I always keep the stock below a boil (as I presume a slow cooker would), I no longer get cloudy stock. Still better for me to do this on the stove top because I make 12-16 qts of stock at a time; far more than any slow cooker could.0 -
I made minestrone in mine yesterday - it was great. Then overnight, I slow poached some quinces with cinnamon and star anise. Dang, they were good!1

Just about everything. Awesome way to have a homecooked meal with very little fat just waiting for you. Curry, pork roasts, pasta sauce, broth, stews, I just love that thing.0

I have cooked corn on the cob, baked apples, baked potatoes.
When my stove was broken and I had to wait a month for the new one I ordered to come I cooked meatloaf and banana bread in my slow cooker. Corned beef, potatoes and cabbage. Soups/stews, large pieces of meat like roast beef or pork, turkey breast, whole chicken, baked beans, refried beans, casseroles. I have made cinnamon sugared almonds in my slow cooker.

I like to do a Whole Chicken "rotisserie style". You ball up several pieces of aluminum foil and place in the bottom and rest your chicken on top. It keeps the chicken out of the released liquid and it gets a nice crispy skin like the grocery store chickens.
Chili, pulled pork/chicken/beef, pork/beef roasts, soups, I've even made desserts.
Of course, now I do most of this in my Instant Pot, but the recipes are the same, only the cooking time is different.0 -
my favorite with a nice round beef is literally a packet of the french onion soup (the kind that comes in the blue box) and a cup of water. It's so good!0

I have a chuck roast in my slow cooker now, cooking in a beef broth/onion soup/beer/Worcestershire mixture. I'll shred it when I'm home. Then I'll toast some sub rolls covered with swiss in the oven until the rolls are nice an crisp and covered in cheese. I'll serve them as French Dips with Au jus on the side. It's one of my family's favorite meals. Anything left over freezes beautifully and tastes even better the next time around.0
