I had lower jaw surgery five weeks ago and got a nasty infection that zapped all my energy. I am just now getting to where I can eat something solid and move around more. I would like to start gaining my weight back that I have lost and gain back my energy. I used to run almost 6 miles 2 or three times a week but didn't a few months before surgery so I am way out of shape. Any suggestions on how to gain back the wight the right way and get back my energy? I am tired of being tired. Thanks.

Should I just suck it off a spoon? I still have braces and can't eat it as a sandwich because it gets stuck. Any particular exercise or just build back up to running?0 -

A spoon works for me.
What exercise do you want to get better at? I presumed you wanted to get back running seeing as you mentioned that you used to run?1 -
I ate everything except apples and chewing gum on braces. but if it's too uncomfortable and/or you don't want to take the extra time cleaning in between (I understand the annoyance), then eat it however you want.0

I definitely want to get back to running, but I didn't know if that was too much cardiovascular to gain weight back at the same time. I am not real knowledgeable with exercise or fitness.0 -

Before surgery I followed the guidelines they gave me strictly because I didn't want to break any brackets or anything. I gave up my peanut butter sandwiches just for the cleaning reason. I am now wearing elastics which I have to put back in after eating so I have to clean well for that anyway, so a sandwich may not be as bad but I don't know how much will get down my throat and how much will get stuck and brushed out! 😃0 -
To gain weight you need to eat more calories than you burn - set your MFP profile to gain .5-1lb a week
If you workout eat back calories that you burnt
Strength training may help but if you want to be able to run consistently again you need to run - maybe start with like C25k to get you back in the routine
Consider liquid calories if you struggle with solids - smoothies, protein shakes etc3 -

Running calories are easy to calculate so yes, it depends on whether you can eat enough?

Ah if you had surgery, that's different. I had double jaw surgery, and did 6 weeks of liquid foods. If I never have to drink another smoothie, it will be too soon. smoosh the sandwich as much as you can, otherwise peanut butter is great to blend in smoothies, soups, sweet potato (mashed mix sounds tasty), bananas.
It sucks to brush out and thinking about it, uncomfortable for sure. But definitely less annoying than corn lol!1 -
