Does anyone have any ideas how to overcome and move past this terrible plateau????
1. If it's been less than 3 weeks or so, don't sweat it! Normal fluctuations happen and unfortunately sometimes we stall for a week or two even when we're doing everything right. Give your body some time to catch up with the changes you're making.
2. If you aren't already, be sure that you're logging everything. Sometimes people forget about things like veggies, drinks, cooking oils, and condiments. For some people these can add up to enough to halt your weight loss progress.
3. Consider buying a food scale if you don't already have one. They're about $10-$20 dollars in the US and easily found at places like Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Measuring cups and spoons are great, but they do come with some degree of inaccuracy. A food scale will be more accurate, and for some people it makes a big difference.
4. Logging accurately also means choosing accurate entries in the database. There are a lot of user-entered entries that are off. Double-check that you're using good entries and/or using the recipe builder instead of someone else's homemade entries.
5. Recalculate your goals if you haven't lately. As you lose weight your body requires fewer calories to run. Be sure you update your goals every ten pounds or so.
6. If you're eating back your exercise calories and you're relying on gym machine readouts or MFP's estimates, it might be best to eat back just 50-75% of those. Certain activities tend to be overestimated. If you're using an HRM or activity tracker, it might be a good idea to look into their accuracy and be sure that yours is calibrated properly.
7. If you're taking any cheat days that go over your calorie limits, it might be best to cut them out for a few weeks and see what happens. Some people go way over their calorie needs without realizing it when they don't track.
8. If you weigh yourself frequently, consider using a program like trendweight to even out the fluctuations. You could be losing weight but just don't see it because of the daily ups and downs.
9. Some people just burn fewer calories than the calculators predict. If you continue to have problems after 4-6 weeks, then it might be worth a trip to the doctor or a registered dietitian who can give you more specific advice.6 -

I have not hit a plateau yet but am well aware that it will happen so this is a timely topic. And I for one am bookmarking this so I can find it later. Learn good info every day.0

I've never hit a plateau, got to make sure you eat based on activity level. Even then suddenly being active, stick to eating less. Make sure you got a training program, mixed between flexibility, strength and stretch every day even on recovery days.0

It happens to the best of us! I just came out of one. Our bodies adjust to things we are doing so I knew it was time for a mix up! Add me! I'll try to offer helpful, motivational pep talks when needed. Haha3

If you think about what is happening as eating at maintenance, or just lose more slowly, because of your lower body weight, but that everybody (and every body) loses weight in a calorie deficit, and that is fact bassed and not hope based, you will understand what you have to do to continue losing weight.0

I just broke through my plateau which lasted from mid-May to mid-July. I lost 7 pounds in a week after breaking through. It's call the Whoosh. There are threads about it, just search on MFP. Fat cells losing fat retain water instead until at some point they let it go in a "whoosh". It's definitely hard to go through a plateau. Just remember that if you are eating in deficit it will happen--trends always return to the mean eventually.3

Don't give up your tracking. Up your exercise a little bit and see if it helps. Also, review the settings on carbs and sugar on your profile, maybe adjust the levels. If you're going through hell, KEEP GOING! All the work you've put in, it's worth the effort. Reading these posts keeps me motivated.1

I’ve been the same weight for a couple of weeks now- wouldn’t really call it a plateau because it’s only been a couple of weeks so far- but before I was losing consistently from one week to the next, so I get that it can be frustrating!
I’ve learnt to trust the process though- I know I’m doing all the right things, so it will come right eventually! Sometimes things happen that can mask weight/ fat loss, for me, over the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed:
- I haven’t been very “regular”- this is a change for me, I’m usually very regular!
- I’ve been doing more exercise than normal.
- I’ve noticed some changes associated with a condition I have, and that I take medication for.
Any of these things could account for my stall, or none of them.
For me, I’m just going to be patient, keep doing what I’m doing and see what happens.1 -
You should update your workout program and also diet program0
