Walking with a 25# pack

One of my cardio exercises is fast pace walking (4.5 - 5mph). As an example, If I walk 3 miles in 37 minutes at said pace and burn 500 calories, how much more would I burn with a weighted pack? Just a ballpark figure is okay with me. I know all the variables that are involved, just looking for an estimated loss.

An additional 25 calories, maybe? Guessing...

    The difference won't be significant.

So basically best benefit is strength & stamina gain? Thanks by the way. Guess I could look at it this way. If I weigh 190# I could figure it as if I weighed 215#

If I recall correctly, the formula is

body weight * .3 * distance walked. So...

    200lbs * .3 * 3miles = 180 calories
    225lbs * .3 * 3miles = 202 calories

So yea... 20ish cals depending on the variables.

Now, 3 miles in 37 minutes is a heck of a walk... so your numbers are probably a bit higher than that, but not significantly so. You're still walking 3 miles... efficiency of exercise wouldn't cause that great of a variance.

I use the iPhone "health app" as a calorie burned reference. Does not seem to be inflated like others. For cycling, I use Strava for calories burned reference.

I use this calculator with the "net" setting. 3 miles in 37 min is about 4.86 MPH. that's some walkin'!

This is awesome! Thank you! My PB is 3 miles 36:51 no pack, with slight grades. Just stride walking, no special hip speed walking

Been wanting to 3-mile test on a school track.

I will loan you a 22lb toddler and a baby carrier

I routinely make the Target loop with the baby, but at a much slower pace!
