Do you have access to a dietician? Just telling you carbs are the devil isn't very helpful - sitting down with a dietician who specialises in diabetes patients may be helpful.5

Some diabetic nurses recommend joining slimming groups like slimming world and weight watchers, the groups aren’t always as supportive and the huge amount of carbs didnt work for me .
I’m trying lchf / keto and it’s also recommended be diabetes specialists, it’s worked amazingly well so far I’m no longer diabetic.
A quick recipe for you too-
4-6 chicken breast equal amounts of bacon rashers.
200ml water and chicken stock cube
Chicken seasoning or 1tsp garlic, half a tsp rosemary & thyme.
Half a cup of butter, double cream and cream cheese .
Cook on high for 3 hrs or low for 6.
Shred chicken with 2 forks leave to simmer with lid off , then sprinkle over half cup of cheese at least and optional crispy cooked bacon crumbled , place lid back on until cheese melts and serve.3 -
Sweetie....ask for a referral to a dietitian! Now is the time to learn your basic food groups and NO carbs are NOT from the devil! Our diets require them! Limited and accounted for in regards to insulin usage.
I am on an insulin pump and it gives me a little insulin every hour! You need education and check blood sugars often as part of your education. Fruits, veggies, whole grains with high fiber are the best of carbs.
Before you know it everything will come to you, no different than taking a shower or brushing your teeth!1 -

In most places they have some version of diabetes management type classes. Normally taught by a dietitian, they are well worth your while. Also on line there are a number of diabetic cookbooks. Cooking light also has so many different recipes, which give the breakdown of carbs, protein, fat and so on all of which you will need because it is part of the diet.
There are many types of glucose meters, and you will need to get use to sticking your fingers to know what your blood sugar reading is before you take insulin so you do not take too much or too little.
These days for me, yes I still have carbs, but more from veges and fruits. I no longer eat breads, and most grains as they were causing me so many issues. But that is me, another diabetic could eat breads, pasta and not have wild swings in blood sugar so can eat in moderation.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is become informed yourself by reading. I say this because there is lots of misinformation out there about cures, or how to reverse, and what to eat. Reading gains you knowledge. Good Luck.2 -

You'll get opinions 'all over the board' on carbs. I'm a diabetic and have had some of the finest Endocrinologists in the world on my team, even they don't share common opinions on how much carb to have in my diet. I've found the greatest success by setting a percentage goal (for me, about 60g per day) and using MFP to track. If you need any helping using MFP to track BS readings, let me know.1
