I love running. I do it more for my mental health than my physical health. The runners high I get every time I complete a long run is amazing. :)

My therapist says I'm trying to outrun grief. I think that's a valid point. But also I run because for a very long time I thought that I couldn't. It might not look like anyone else's running, or running at all. I'll probably never place in the top for my age group, or have "good" pace times, but I don't care about that. It's mine. And it's awesome.

I would give this comment a million likes if I could.

I run because I had some not so good results from a recent health screening. I have a BMI of 26 but others factors were not that great either.

Why I run....for a glass of wine, a treat, to feel better...I actually don't really like it, most days it's WORK, I'm also goal driven so each run I try to go further or faster. Lastly I'm trying to regain the fitness level I had 4 years ago.

I run for food, and the feeling I get after I finish running. Don't care for the actual running part, but the rewards are definitely worth it.

I run because for years I could not due to injury and the mental and physical rewards are amazing. I do know you can’t outrun a bad diet of course which is a lesson I learned a few years back before snow skiing injuries knocked me out of the game for about 20 years

I started running because pizza. I continue to run because I discovered I can actually do it (albeit slowly) and I rather enjoy it. Especially once I've done it and had a shower and have breakfast in front of me :D

I started to jog (still training, can't do a full run) because I feel half a person because I can't jog.

Do both feet leave the ground? If yes, that's running. Running isn't about speed, it's about gait. Jogging is a term invented by pugilists that is used for a runners gait with pugilism arm movements.

So, now you know, you run. You are a runner.

I used the verb jogging because I meant rinning for some period of time. I can do the movement "running". My problem is that I can only run for 120sec at the moment.

I thought it was straight forward what I meant there. It's a nice topic. Let's not derail the thread by going into linguistics.

I started running because I could not get my heart rate up enough from just power walking any more. I like to mix it up with slow steady state runs, power walk/run intervals, and power walking for recovery. When I first started running I could only run for about 30 seconds at a slow pace. Now I can run 5 miles at a slow pace. My legs and joints have gotten stronger from running too.

I started thinking it would help me lose weight. Shorter distances are useful for this.

Now, I run because the progress I am making make me feel good about myself.

I think there's a misunderstanding - it was meant as a compliment! Many people feel that running slowly is jogging and not really "running" but you don't have to be able to run a certain speed or a certain distance to call yourself a runner.

120 seconds is fine, what's important is that you are out there running. Keep training, I hope soon you can run long enough to feel whole again! This time last year I couldn't run more than 60 seconds and now I can run six miles.

If it was meant as a compliment it was a misunderstanding indeed. I appologise. It is difficult sometimes to determine without the intonation.

6 miles! I hope I can get there!

I run because I never believed I could. I run because I love having a concrete reason to get my butt off the couch. I run to get the extra calories. I run because finishing a race feels like a huge accomplishment - even though I've done it several times before. I run because I love the feeling when a run is complete (although not always the feeling in the middle). I run as a stress release; when I couldn't run due to knee pain and another of my stress relievers was off the table (bathtub was damaged + needed replacement), I found myself shopping more, which was definitely not good.

I only run if someone is chasing me and even then they would have to be pretty scary and have a handful of spiders or something

Exercise for reward is not optimal. Try to run because it is enjoyable.

I like to run because I can drink more beer. What kind. Local craft beer of course. The only reason to exercise is for a reward. Be it fitness, or well, beer. You do you and I'll do me.

Local for local's sake is a stupid reason to drink any beer. By that rationale, we truly should all live in Portland, San Diego, NorCal, or that one amazing city in North Carolina... forgetting other beer meccas in this country.

I, too, was going to say I run for beer. And tacos.
