My iPhone is linked to mfp for steps and it shows in my home screen how many steps I'm doing but it's not registering under exercise, how do I fix it?

There is nothing that needs to be fixed. Syncing steps adjusts your daily calories based on your activity level, but steps do not record as purposeful exercise, even if you take an intentional walk or run. Just keep walking and you'll be fine!
