I know, when you stop calling your friends by their nickname and start using their real name.

That's kind of funny. In my mom's family a lot of older people had odd nicknames that certainly never phased out as they aged.

My generation family and friends did not seem to use nicknames as much as the older folks did. I can only think of one friend who actually went by a nickname and she still uses it because she hates her real name.
I go by a shortened form of my name generally but never considered that a nickname or not my real name because I have been called it since birth. I only use the long version on official documents or signing up for something so I know the stranger calling me by my name is not my friend. I don't forsee my name usage changing. I was almost a Jennifer and I could see going from Jenny or Jenn to using Jennifer as I got older.

old = when the mind is willing, but the body refuses (what ever the physical endeavor is).

I call myself old cause numerically I am. 45 is pretty old, well except my one grandma lived to be 102 so I've like 6 years to go before in middle age I figure.

But physically I'm not old. Ya stuff aches and creaks and I go to physio for many different body parts but I can out skate people half my age.

Mentally I'll never be old. My Mmm is old...she's always been "old" I have an example of why not to give up and accept my age

Your as young as you feel , I feel like I’m pushing 90 😝

The human body is only designed to last 30-40 years so naturally things start to break down and malfunction, medical science has changed that and the majority live twice as long so many many years ago before medical intervention 30-40 was considered old and now life expectancy has changed its 60+ I’d say .

Then again there’s 90 year olds cliff running around here where as I’m half their age and can’t run at all right now lol

I’m 32, I don’t think that’s even close to old. But I also feel much younger than 32. I hope that carries with me through time.

Same here 32, but still feel like my 20s self.

One foot in front of the other. That's progress. I might be old but, I can run a marathon at 50 and I couldn't do that at 25!

I'll be 64 next Tuesday. Mentally, I've never had a problem with getting older, but, physically, I'm starting to feel the years. I played competitive soccer up until I was 61. I regret quitting, because I think that playing helped me a lot. About all I do now is hike. Keeps me in shape, weight wise, but losing that competitive edge I had. And then, chronologically, I look at the men in my family and how long they lived and I realize I may only have 20 to 25 years left. Luckily, my wife is 8 years younger than I am, so I am unlikely to have to deal with her going before me. And, I am lucky that all my daughters are successful and I know I don't have to worry about them. So, I am going to retire soon and spend my time by the pool enjoying good bourbon and cigars, travelling with my wife, and not worry about my longevity. It has been and still is a great life.

Always a good perspective on things from you sir.
