Started the gym but gaining weight.

Ive been sticking to a diet of 1200 calories - 1500 calories tops a day and after losing 30 pounds I decided to join a gym to lose the rest. However, Ive been there a week doing weight training with light weights and things such as a medicine ball and low weights on machines. And cardio for 30 mins and on opposing days I do cardio for 45 mins. Since then ive gone from 155 to 159.8! Its discouraging! Considering I took all this time to get the 30 pounds off and I still need to lose 30 pounds. Why is this happening and will i continue to gain weight or will this make me lose the 30 pounds i still need to lose! UGH:sad:

You didn't gain 4.8lbs in a week. Your weight gain is likely due to water retention. So chill out.

    Are the weights pink?

When you start a new exercise routine, your muscle retain water while they repair themselves, it's perfectly normal to see an increase in your weight during this time. Don't sweat it, if it's really important to see your loss, then measure yourself instead.

Do not sweat the weight gain. As long as you are sticking to your calories and keeping sodium levels in check you are doing okay. You may have hit a plateau in which case lifting weights will help you go on to the next level. Muscle burns calories even while resting so the goal is to increase your level of muscle.
