I'm looking for some fav workout routines that people find they can stick to. Ive joined a local gym and generally in the past have found success doing classes (Zumba, Pilates, Spin) but my new work schedule has me missing most of those. I like following a routine of sorts or having someone else tell me what to do , otherwise I find myself sort of wandering at the gym and half heartedly doing machines. Stronglifts appealed to me but my gym doesnt have a power cage and I cant switch gyms right now.
So - advice? Experience? Fav stuff? I can probably devote like an hour 3 times a week and I'm a beginner and very out of shape.
My stats : 5'8" SW 215, CW 185 GW 145.
Thanks!!

How about following one of the dumbbell routines on the 'which lifting programme is best for you' thread.
Does your gym have a pool? Water walking, swimming, or aqua fit are good.
Is there a 'core and more' or 'circuit' type class in your available times.
I enjoyed belly dancing, it is a good core workout too.
Cheers, h.2 -

Thanks for the response. I will check out the thread you mention - the weights seem a good way to go.
The gym has a pool and my schedule will let me hit an aquafit class or maybe some lane swimming. I did the aquafit class but I think it is geared to more seniors - I was the only one under 60 and the workout was so light that even with the 'difficult' modifiers, I felt like I didnt get much out of it. Id love to get into more classes but I cant afford to sign up for anything additional to what I can access now. Maybe I could do some video programs at home? My problem is that I dont want it SO hard that I cant keep up, but also not so easy that I dont see any benefits. Ive done t25 before and teied P90X but I found the one too short and fast and the other too long lol.0 -
I'd do the lane swimming for cardio - it's about the only cardio I like at a gym.
As for solving the "wandering at the gym" not knowing what to do issue - I'd take a few classes with a personal trainer and have them help you develop a routine.
Tell the trainer you want to lift like a man. See The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess. I got that from my library and then bought the later book, Strong, but didn't find the routines appropriate for my strength and injuries.
In fact, the only truly beginner program that works with my bad knees I've found has been The RBG Workout: How She Stays Strong . . . and You Can Too!. I do that at home but you could certainly do it at any gym.2 -

Thanks for the recommendations - I will check out those books!0 -
I had a personal trainer set up some programs for me based on my needs and goals. I never actually worked out with him, he just put together a 5 week program based on my feedback and needs.
When I got to the point of wanted to ease up a bit, I found a weight lifting program online and did my own cardio in addition to the lifting.0 -
I use Nike training app at home and it’s been awesome. It’s free, makes a workout plan for you and is flexible. It really gets me sweaty and keeps me committed to it!1

I have been going to Burn Bootcamp for the past 5 month's love what it's done to me but, I only joined for 6 month's and now its expiring and too expensive to rejoin. I am looking for some online assistance, have the NTC app as well. 8/29 I will be trying it.0
