Foods that are low in sodium

What are some good meal ideas that are low in sodium? I have high blood pressure and I have found that many of the foods that I think are good because they are not super high in calories are crazy high in sodium. Any help?

Usually, your high sodium foods will be packaged foods that are already flavored/spiced. So a can of soup or a frozen dinner or chicken flavored rice. Your best bet is to buy plain or whole foods and season them yourself with something other than salt.

If you do eat a lot of packaged or frozen foods (I do, no judgement ) you just have to check the label. There are some choices that aren't high sodium. I don't have any issues so I don't really check.

Any foods that are fresh are going to be lower in sodium, so fresh meats, vegetables, fruits, etc. You do need to watch dairy, the sodium levels can sneak up. If you do packaged foods, just look for the ones labeled low sodium, there are lots these days. Really it's going to be about reading labels. I'm always surprised by the nutrition content of packaged foods, including the sodium.
