Ladies - Probably a stupid question

Do you weigh yourself when you're on your period?
I started this morning and was a pound heavier than last week. Now I'm thinking maybe I should just stay away from my scale until I'm off it. This is my first postpartum period since giving birth 8 weeks ago so I could be on it for awhile.
What do you ladies do? Weigh yourself or skip?

I do, but fluctuations don't bother me. I generally weight a little more during my period, so I expect it. I like to weigh frequently because I find it interesting to the changes caused by different conditions.0

I weigh every day no matter what. Even when hormones cause me to stall or gain. Once you start noticing a pattern it's pretty easy to just take it in stride.0

Personal preference. I like to try and weigh once a week. Sometimes if it's up and I know it's water or hormonal I won't add it to my ticker, but I do tend to still track it so I know it happened.0

Not at all a stupid question. I always gain about 2 pounds right around the time my period starts, and lose it by the end. I feel more bloated, too.
I'm a little concerned that you are trying to lose weight so soon after giving birth. Your body needs some time to recover. I'm guessing you are not nursing since you got your period back so fast. Too bad as it really helps with returning to your pre-birth weight. An extra 500 cal per day (what you need for lactation) is also a nice bonus. But even if you aren't nursing your body just made a person! Be kind to yourself and don't worry about your weight for a while.0 -

I was told by my doctor that I'm not allowed to exercise (beyond walking) for a year. I just had my 3rd c-section in less than 3 years. Classical incision, with a uterine rupture. Right now all I can do is watch what I'm eating. I'm no longer nursing, I stopped about 3 weeks ago after getting sick. I dropped 30 pounds of my baby weight pretty much just from nursing alone. When I got pregnant I had went from around 273-275 down to 195. I'm pretty sure I have that weight loss to thank entirely for getting pregnant. I'm so anxious to get back into the swing of things. I'm definitely taking it much slower than I want to. I haven't started walking or anything yet, just watching what I'm eating. I'm trying to be kind to myself. I know my stomach isn't going to be flat as board for awhile.0 -
I weigh daily, doesn't matter what's going on. And I do tend to gain a pound or two during my period.
ETA: If my doctor told me not to exercise for a year I'd get a new doctor. And yes that's having C-sections. I was told "do what you're comfortable with after the 6th week"0 -

The concern is that my incision is huge. From my belly button to my pubic bone, its a classical incision. And my scar tissue has been opened and reopened 3 times in less than 3 years. He doesn't want me to risk ripping my scar tissue doing sit ups or anything. I understand where he is coming from. My uterus ruptured from me carrying a basket of laundry, so I'm just going to take his advice and take it easy for the first year.0 -

^ This.
FYI I put on about 1.5kgs monthly at hat time of the month.0 -
Three c-sections in less than 3 years is serious stuff. Hard enough on a body just having pregnancies that close together! You are very wise to listen to your doctor. I'm sure you will be able to go for brisk walks soon enough. That plus eating well will get you on your way. But with your history I, too, would be very careful. Glad you are doing so.0

My cycle is all over the place thanks to nursing and contraception, but I'd guess mine's on it's way as I was 2kg up on Monday's weight this morning
I won't log it (I'll see where I'm at this Monday) but I can put it down to hormones I think. If you are affected by the number on the scale (not saying that's a bad thing, most people are) then I wouldn't, but it is a personal choice.0 -
I weigh no matter what, and just accept that I can be heavier during that part of my cycle.
That said, I had twins December last year by c section and my post partum bleeding lasted nearly 12 weeks. I find I retain more fluid now than I used to, and my period is heavier than it used to be.
That sounds like the whole process has been very hard on your body, be good to yourself. Weigh no matter what if you need that to keep accountable (I know I do!)
Good luck x0 -
I prefer to weigh once a week and I know that the week before/of my period I'm usually down a little and then rebound the following week. I call it my phantom loss. I know it's coming and just account for it. As long as the general trend is down, I don't think it matters.0

Yes, although I try not to. I understand where the extra weight is coming from, but it pisses me off regardless.0

I do, but I usually let myself off the hook if I have a small gain. It is really just there to drive us nuts0

I gain a full 5 lbs each peiod. It goes away usually the 5th or 6th day when I have to pee every 5 minutes. So, I do weigh myself, but I always keep that number in mind.0

^^This. I am due to weigh tomorrow and expecting a gain or maintain. Hopefully next week i'll be back to normal.
I know you will but listen to your Dr, 3 sections in 3 years is some serious stuff. Losing weight takes second place to you not ending up in hospital from over doing it.
Oh, and congrats on your babby. Nothing better (or more tiring) than a new babby0 -
I don't, mostly because I don't need any more reasons to feel hellish and awful during shark week.0
