Do you think you know it all about nutrition/health/medicine? You don't, I don't, scientists don't, no expert does. Why don't they? Because just like today, we will always still be learning very far into the future. Naivety and arrogance are factors common to those who don't want to learn or don't want to accept when things are changing or when old science or "theories" are being disproved.

We already have enough knowledge to eat healthily. The challenge is to apply it, which is very difficult when we let ourselves be scared and confused by "new discoveries".23

The problem is when crackpots like Taubes don't "disprove" existing science - they attempt to subvert it with cherry-picked research and pseudoscience.
Taubes is not a researcher or scientist - he's a journalist. He formed an organization called NuSI (which is now in ruins), and commissioned actual scientists/researchers to conduct a study which would "prove" his pet theory that insulin causes obesity. The group, led by Dr. Kevin Hall, conducted the study, and ultimately it disproved, rather than proved, Taubes' theory. Peter Attia, one of the co-founders of NuSI, quietly left the organization and now has nothing to do with it.
It is a good idea to keep an eye on new/developing research. But it's also a good idea to learn to vet one's sources and critically eye new research, and to examine the motives/agendas behind it.33 -

I hate threads with titles that say nothing about content. Would have skipped "long video that concurs with mfp".13

I like your aggressive posturing here. It pretty much guarantees to get people's backs up before they even look at the video. Tells me you weren't really looking for a discussion, just stirring up some drama on a quiet Thursday morning.18 -
I think you have to be judicious with new "science" and studies, and more importantly where did the funds come from. What is terrible for you today, may claim to be "overstated" tomorrow and "just flat out wrong" the week after that. Always look at the size of the study, who performed the study and who funded the research.2

A thorough, evidence-based article about the falsehood of Taubes' BS (links to numerous studies included): https://weightology.net/good-calories-bad-calories-the-mythology-of-obesity-or-the-mythology-of-gary-taubes/11

Call me a curmudgeon, but I refuse, on principle, to watch video content even from sources I trust and respect. It's way too passive a form of absorbing information. If someone wants to share content with me, they can post transcripts of it or have an audio of it that I can download and listen to while I walk.
Ain't nobody got time to be sitting there for an hour listening to someone shill something.14 -

Taubes.
And Mark Hyman.
Both resemble the sound made by members of the the taxonomic family Anatidae.6 -

Especially a discredited, debunked journalist whose organization is in shambles and who has wondered out loud if he is a quack. And whose research doesn't support his own theories.8 -
Taubes needs to go back to being a journalist. There's big bucks in generating Fake News these days.
Oh, wait...6 -

I agree. But the problem is, established science isn't being disproved, here.
Just like the flat-earthers, naivety and arrogance are the hallmarks of true believers who will hold steadfast despite there being no valid scientific evidence to support their zeal, and plenty of proof to the contrary.8 -
