I have always been cursed with naturally built legs - big thighs and big calves. Now not only are they big and muscular, they have a nice layer of fat over them. Is there any way to slim them down, besides of course doing cardio to get rid of the fat?

As many people here know, I am an avid hiker. I too, have large muscular legs, and hiking on a regular basis has toned them up very nicely, and in a rather short period also. Try getting out and climbing a mountain, it's good for your legs and your soul!

I'll also second the lunges and squats as far as weight training goes. Very good for your glutes (and helps to shape ample posteriors as well  )

ik how you feel ive always had bigger thighs even when i was thin and i just want thin legs.
  • I've got huge legs as well, soccer genes. I read an article about "problem areas" once and I thought the idea that was presented there made a lot of sense. If you're already muscular in your legs, to work them out might just increase their size and draw more attention to the disproportion. As far as cardio goes I would probably go with an eliptical trainer or something like that and use the arms more than the legs, trying to avoid building more muscle mass. I'd avoid incline exercises because it seems to me like you'd be really building thigh muscle mass there. Focus more on the upper body and you could balance out your proportions. Just a theory I guess, but it makes sense to me. Your legs are probably getting enough exercise already, by bearing your upper body around all day.

well at least it looks muscular.

I am short...so my legs are naturally stubby. hehehehe

Yoga trimmed out my entire body without adding too much muscles. Speaking of. I need to re-join.

Yoga is probably a great idea for trimming up.

Not just theory - I checked it
It really works that way. When I started exercising my whole body instead of just my lower body part I look better - lower part is shrinking and upper slightly bigger. You have to do weights training for EVERY part of your body. Don't worry about too much muscles - it's extremely difficult for a girl to have big and visible muscles
Elliptical is good for cardio here.
I also find yoga helpful - I don't know if it really works but I feel a lot of stretching makes my legs look slimmer.

Nothing but cardio will burn the fat but toning the muscle under it will accelerate it. I too have big legs from years upon years of soccer running and hiking....

I feel like I have larger calves. Ive come to the realization that its just how my body is built.
I can tone and caardio as much as I want and it will make my legs look better, but I will always have built calves. I think its part of embracing what God gave you.
  • I also have big bulky muscular legs... In high school I could press more weight than the boys and do squats and lunges longer... I wish I had not done that now because the untoned muscle now just looks huge and flabby and all I want is to have a girls figure... lol...
