Anybody have any ideas

I have an appointment with the ortho, but I am having a problem with the leg muscle under my knee. It doesn't hurt much when I am walking, but having to go up and down stairs, and if I turn a certain way, it feels like the muscle is tearing away and I have to grab something or feel like I will fall down. I've had shin splints before, but nothing like this. Anyone have any ideas?

That sounds like an IT band issue. See what the doc says for sure but it doesn't hurt to check out a few articles while you are waiting to get in.
