How!? How does this happen!?

I really want you to check the washing machine to see how many socks are in it. Which I also read about as one of the reasons that happens. Another reason is static electricity makes them stick to other clothes and they fall out later without anyone noticing.0

I feel like if the missing socks were just lying in the washing machine you'd be able to see them...2 -

I've found socks and other items in the pump filter on the front load washer that I have. Normal maintenance is to clean that filter at least every couple months. I still don't know how they get there.0 -

They aren't in the washer tub they are inside the washer.

I had a missing sock show up in the leg of a pair pants not too long ago. I searched like a mad woman for it too. :laugh:1 -

I have had this happen more than I want to admit.0 -
My washer is top loading. . I don't see anyway for them to get IN anything. . But I'll check. I will also check to see if they ended up squeezing through the filter (like the bad terminator) and into my dryer. . If they are all down there I will be really disappointed because it will mean my vortex theory is all wrong and that there is no magic in the world.1

The top loader drum or tub moves around and can create a space large enough for sock or a small article of clothing to fit through.0 -

2 They don't make it paired into the laundry basket, and end up getting washed in different loads
I know for sure #2 is true because I have a bag with missing sock pairs. Every so often I go through and can match a lot of them up.

Ahh. But see...before i did this, i scoured the house. Looked behind and under the washer and dryer. Under the furnature, behind the piano. Everywhere! I then cleaned out my truck and washed every scrap of laundry...This wasnt just a surprising observation. It was a mission and a science experiment where i meticulously controlled every reasonable static variable.
Then there are only three other possibilities:
1 You have a worm hole location in your home. The sock pairs are in a different dimension, befuddling the other version of you, who is now also typing in, How does this happen? Only the socks keep appearing in his home, instead of appearing.
2 You have a ghost in your home that enjoys messing with you.
3 Your kids are using their socks in art projects. Hats for their plush toys, stuffing many socks into the other to make a clown sock, or you have teenage boys doing what they do with socks.
From what you stated, in that you controlled for many variables, I think #1 is the most plausible.

I have these two kids who get their socks out of the lonely sock bin every single morning. Who cares if your mother spends half of her life matching your socks and there is a drawer full of nice pairs at your disposal?0

mix and match and just tell people its your lucky socks0

The sock would have to leap up to the top then crawl through the crack . . i.e. magic.0 -

I like the way you think. .

I would do that if they weren't all different sizes too.. there are only two people living in this home. . so this is one of the more baffling aspects of this mystery.0 -
I must be weird cause at almost 50 years old I've lost very few socks over the years. lol
I have worse luck with misplacing lids that go with plastic containers.0 -

I like this idea. . I'll just make him wear mismatched orphans until he can find all the matched pairs or prove to me that the vortex exists.. . This would have been a fantastic 5th grade science fair project!1 -

Ohhhh!. . the vortex forms under the barrell!0 -
When I started buying all of the same color and style of sock it seems like I stopped losing them. I also don't use a dryer.
I think you are probably haunted and the ghost is messing with you.

The ghost of puppets must come and only take ones who really are special. And then the ghost at times puts a sock in your dryer that you swear belongs to no one in your household. All done just to make you wonder if you are maybe just maybe appearing in an old episode of the Twilight Zone.
Or else, somehow they are sneaking behind the drum in the dryer, and escaping into the vent. Do not laugh this can happen, as odd as it sounds. Last time we had it cleaned out one was found about 10 feet inside vent. I like the worm hole theory.0
