I have managed to maintain my weight for over a year now I eat 3or4 pieces of fruit per day usually. I also eat vegetables and lean meat, I like Greek yogurt and on occasion I will eat cheese so not alot of dairy. Im quite happy with my diet however I have just read an article about how too much fruit can sabotage your weight loss and we should really only aim for 1 to 2 portions of fruit per day, I really believed eating fruit was what helped me lose weight in the first place, what's your thoughts on how much fruit you should eat in a day.

As much as you like that fits your calories and macros.
Too much fruit doesn't stop weight loss, too many calories does.2 -
Eating too many calories than you need will sabotage weight loss, not 3-4 pieces of fruit.3

For weightloss, it's the overall calories that matter. If you're doing a program like Weight Watchers, where most fruits and vegetables are unlimited, it can sabotage you, not because fruit is evil(!), but because, at least in my case, I tended to equate zero points with zero calories. So if you're eating 250-500 calories worth of fruit and thinking it doesn't "count" because it's zero points, that's where you run into problems. (Most non-starchy veg are also zero points, but on average, non-starchy veg have fewer calories than fruits, so it's harder—not impossible—to overdo those as well.)
As to how much you should eat, so long as you're getting adequate nutrition (i.e. the calories you're getting from fruit aren't crowding out other foods so that you're not getting in enough protein and/or fat), eat as much as you want within your calories.1 -

If you've managed to maintain your weight for over a year then continue doing what you're doing. You say you're quite happy with your diet so why change it over some article.1 -

That's a very good point about not crowding out other foods and perhaps not getting adequate nutrition for other sources, made me think!0 -
I eat a bunch of fruit and have never logged it. It is free food in my book and never was a factor in losing, maintaining, or gaining for me. That is usually based on HUGE meals and too many high calories drinks.1

What kinds of problems would the 'natural' sugar in fruit cause?
If you have been maintaining or successfully lost/losing weight eating fruit, then eating fruit isn't causing any issues with maintaining or losing. The article is just fear mongering.1 -

anytime the phrase "too much" appears, you have your answer. Doesn't matter what follows it.

My dad would eat tons of fruits a day and he went to the dr lost 30 pounds but became border line diabetic
He was told to check his sugar everyday and his sugar now is back to normal but yea to much fruit is not good3 -
Honestly, if you were actually eating too much fruit you would have massive runs, which in turn would help you lose weight and be dehydrated. Fruit is kinda sneakily self-regulating that way to keep you from eating too much.1
