I have been religiously following my diary and counting. Here I find out that the goals set for me
in SUGAR were at 45, when the standard should be 25g. To my amazement once I adjusted the goal to 25g , I began to lose weight. Perhaps this info might help the community at large.

Or maybe not. A good diet is one that provides you with enough of all the nutrients you need every day, and not too many calories over time, and one you can and will follow. Appropriate calorie target, and adhering to it, for real, consistently and for a long time, is what makes you lose weight. MFP's recommendations are set by percentage. You can change all values yourself. Most people don't have to track sugar, and anything that confuses us, takes away mental focus from what counts.5

..and sugar on the FOOD diary includes fructose and lactose in addition to added sugars, so you can't really separate them out.
Sugar isn't a problem unless it causes one to go over their calorie goals.

I've never specifically tracked sugar and never had a problem losing when watching my calories. That's not to say I eat nothing but sugar, but there are many foods that have it. I'm not giving up fruits and starchy veggies to stay under this number.
I'm glad you're seeing progress.3 -

The recommended maximum sugar intake is 25g of ADDED sugar. This excludes sugar found naturally in foods like fruit, vegetables and dairy. MFP can not differentiate between sugar found naturally in foods and sugar added to foods so goes by an overall percentage of 15% instead. Unless you have a medical condition there is no benefit of reducing fruit and vegetable consumption to fit within the 25g guidelines.9
