Hi was just wondering if anyone else has come across this. My maintenance calories should be 1210 according to MFP. I have infact probably be eating an extra day 100 or 150 calories most days for a few weeks or perhaps a bit longer however I am not gaining any weight, I'm sticking around 102 to 105lbs, should I not be gaining more considering I have upped my calorie intake

I assume you are quite short to be given a maintenance goal of 1210? You are tiny. A couple of points:

Are you logging your calories? "Infact probably" "perhaps longer"... Sounds like you are not tracking 100%?

MFP's calorie goal or calorie goals given to you via other online sources are just base line numbers to use and are not exacts. A person's calorie goals should be adjusted up or down after 4-6 week period according to what ever the goal is, maintain/lose/gain.

Also, 100-150 calories per day would take you 3-5 weeks to gain a pound.

Keep in mind TDEE is a moving target. You could be moving around more in general which you are burning more. Keep tracking cals and weight and adjust as needed.

Yes I'm just under 5ft so am in fact a healthy weight however I would like to get up to about 7 and a half stone as I think it would look a bit better, I am tracking calories everyday, although not weighing food and tend to go with more rather than less calories when not sure of exact weight. Thanks for the advice though I did,nt realise it would take as long as 3 to 5 weeks to gain a pound eating say an extra 150 calories a day. I am quite active at work however have put my activity level at not very active, so not sure if I should adjust that.

That is impacting your intake levels then, you need to set your activity level a little higher and eat more to gain weight. Weighing your food is the most accurate way (admittedly I don't usually either but still.)

If you want to gauge better accuracy, the food scale is a game changer in meeting your goals.

About a 1/2 pound week gain would be healthy gain or slow and steady. It just takes longer to see gain in the weight fluctuations week to week doing it slower.. Adjust your activity level or your calorie goals (via custom), either one based on your cal intake and what your weight is doing.

    3500 calories = 1 pound
    150 calories = 23.3 days to gain 1 pound

so yea u will need to eat a surplus of 150 cals/day for 23.3 days consistently to gain 1 pound

and on days ur more active, you'll burn more, so you'll need to readjust your surplus

also, not weighing food is a big nono when ur actually tracking. estimating is not accurate. get a food scale if you can. im glad I did

Yes I will start weighing food and adjust activity level on days I'm working I had no idea it would take so long to gain a pound in weight eating above my MFP, I have definitely learned something thanks People

I have just changed my activity level to slightly active and to gain 1/2 pound per week. It has given me a calorie intake of 1590 which is quite a big difference so will try this and see how things go. thanks

this thread is first world problems for sure. :D

How? Plenty if people ask this when they're first trying to lose. It's just the opposite problem.

You are currently eating 1310-1360 and 1590 is about right for gaining 1/2 week. You can do it, best of luck!

cause most ppl here are trying to lose, ull rarely get someone who has a problem with eating more.

either way, it was a joke.

You couldn't be more wrong but I forgive you 😊

Fair enough. Be careful because many people try to gain to recover from an ED or after an illness. It's kind of like when folks say, "I wish I had your problem". No one would ever say that to someone who is struggling to lose.

Anyway, I promise no hard feelings! I just see this too often on here, and had to say something. I'm done hijacking your thread OP, and good luck to you!

Appreciate your input, and just to be clear there is no ED, thankfully. But you made a very good point
