Here's another tip for heavy weight lifters, calisthenics/arialists or gymnasts:

If you have a problem with callous ripping on your hands, you can prevent them. Get an electric foot filer. Use it on your palms. Then put Miracle Foot Cream with Aloe on them. They have Miracle Hand Cream - it's the same product in different packaging.

Really works wonders. My hands look great now and feel good too.

Can you use the electric foot filer on your fingernails to create a pleasant oval shape and then use the foot cream on the fingernail cuticles for sloughing purposes and enhanced elegant appeal?

No. The foot filer would wreck your nails. Plus the cream does not dissolve cuticles, but it might soften them. Better to use a cuticle remover for that.

For women who do hard stuff with their hands, I recommend either no nail polish and short, clipped nails, or a gel no-chip manicure. A regular manicure or doing your own nail polish will only frustrate you - they would chip constantly with the work you are doing. I know some women who do long acrylics and weight lift no problem. To each his own.

Also keep athletic tape and scissors in your gym bag. If you do get a rip in your hands, you won't have to stop your workout.

I haven't had a problem with rips since I started using the filer and the cream, however. Using chalk is really hard on your hands, so only use when necessary.

Did you have anything to share with the group, newmeadow?

    Am I eligible?

I'm not that fit, and there are those who consider me sexy, but I was also holding a bag of Doritos.

But I think this kind of fits me perfectly.

I once saw a Korean pedicurist shave a thick foot callous off a client using what looked like cheese slicer. I don't know if the client was lifting weights with her feet or just walking on them. But the Korean pedicurist 's callous removal technique was very streamlined and didn't involve messy creams.

But can't you just use leather gloves preventatively like the weightlifter girls do?

The messy creams are in the water they dip their client's foot in. The grater method is not for hands. Plus, that only encourages more thick growth in the skin cells because your body sees it as an injury to protect. It's great for a quick fix but not good for long term. I won't let them come near me with that thing. Don't have to because, foot filer and "messy" cream. You know, because lotion is so messy.

As for the gloves, I do calisthenics too, and you need to have a strong grip for that. Skin and chalk give the best grip. Gymnasts wear protective hand grips and chalk, but they still regularly get tears. I do gymnastics, but don't use hand grips because the wood bars they use have too much give - I end up with bruises all over my thighs because I don't feel the impact in the moment. Calisthenics bars have no give, so you do gentler movements.
