I want to start using protein powder as a meal replacement for breakfast.

Which powders do you recommend that are also price conscious?

I've used anything and everything in breakfast protein shakes + frozen fruit + fresh fruit + whatever liquid you like. Find a few flavors you like, then buy the biggest size to maximize the economy.

I like Optimun Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. However, it is a bit pricey. I like the chocolate. It mixes well and is great with just water.

Protein powders aren't designed to be meal replacements. Even more interesting, is why you would want to replace a meal. Don't you like food? Food is also cheaper than replacements.

I use high Protein Slim Fast (strawberry). 190 calories. 20 grams of protein. Tastes just like a strawberry milkshake. I don’t have time for breakfast, so this is great. Ready made cans. Perfect for on the go.

I use Bodylogix Natural Whey (decadent chocolate), 25 g of protein. No artificial sweeteners (uses stevia), no artificial colors, non-gmo, grass fed well-mannered cow's milk. :)

FWIW, protein powder is not an appropriate meal replacement, at least not by itself. Meals have broader, more complete nutrient profiles. Protein is, well, just protein.

If you want to use protein, fine. But as a meal replacement I'd suggest adding things to it - peanut butter, fruit, etc. Otherwise, go with something that's actually meant to be a meal replacement.

Unless what you actually mean is a meal supplement... using protein powder to supplement what you're already eating and what is already a reasonably balanced diet. In that case, protein powder is great. I typically go with either Optimum Nutrition or Trutein brands.
