I am a 34 year old mom of 2 (1 girl, 1 boy) very busy but trying to get my family to have better eating habits. I work full time, am a troop leader for my daughters girl scout troop, take daughter to dance, son to tumbling, and any therapy appointments that come along. My son (6) is autistic mostly non verbal (only says things when he wants 🙄 which isn't very often) he takes a lot of my time, hence why I started a troop for my daughter (11) 3 years ago. It is our thing to do together. Husband works opposite shifts, but we get weekends off together. I have always struggled with my weight and I don't want my kids to go through the same thing. As of right now they both are at a good weight for their height. But it's more the kinds of food they eat that I'm trying to change. At first it was just me that was watching what I ate (doing keto) then my husband started watching his, then we decided to change our kids eating habits. My daughter is a bit easier then my son. He does not like 90% of what we make. Being autistic he does not like textures of certain foods or he just don't like the way it looks. Sometimes I sit at the table for over 45 minutes just to try and get him to try new foods. Usually ends up with him crying or telling me to "stop it". So far I am down 58.8 pounds from January 2018 and still have about 80 more to lose. But very proud of how far I have come. Looking for more motivation and support friends on MFP. Anyone else have a crazy busy life but trying to get their family on the same page with eating healthy? Some days are just so hard!

Hi there! I'm a mom to 3 and my middle kid has autism as well (he is 6 years old). I'm divorced and my oldest is in baseball so between his schedule and speech and OT for my autistic son we are always on the move too. For me I try and have fresh fruit and veggies available for snacks, however I do not push my meals on my kids. They are young and within a healthy weight so a balanced meal is what I look for. I don't have any tips for you as each kid is different, however wanted to respond and offer my support.1

I don't push meals on my kids (they are both healthy weight also) I'm just trying to get my son to try more foods. He does love a lot of fruits so that is good. I usually just make him a plate of what I make everyone else and he normally tries a bite. If he don't like it that's fine at least he tried it, I make him something else after. But I want him to at least try a bite because a lot of the times I know he will like it, he just don't like the way it looks. The deal is just taste it or touch it with your tounge, if you don't like it that's fine you don't have to eat it. He is just stubbon sometimes and fights the tasting deal. But I have found so many new foods that he likes now by doing this (not just corn dogs and chicken nuggets). I do feel bad sometimes when he fights me, and if he says "stop it" I say ok and let him have something else. Because at least he used his words.1
