I just want to thank everyone here for all the support and advice I have received since joining! I came into all of this believing a lot of the diet industry’s lies...that one food group was bad, that I had to avoid the foods I enjoyed, etc. Now I’m losing weight consistently, and still able to drink a soda here and there, have a taco without feeling like I “cheated”, join in on family meals without making myself something else. It feels like a lifestyle upgrade, rather than a diet prison. Once my health issues get worked out I may not continue to lose as fast as I have been, but I’m more than okay with that. As I’ve been reminded, more than once, this is a lifelong journey...and I’m in it for the long-haul.

Congratulations! It's very freeing when you discover that weight loss doesn't have to involve suffering, denial, arcane eating rituals or completely excluding foods/entire food groups from your diet. Just eat a reasonable diet that contains less calories than you expend over time, stick to it and have a lot of patience.

The old timers around here often get critised but their advice is usually spot on. I have learned heaps from them and hope to continue to do so while helping newbies with their journeys. Some might be a bit blunt but I prefer that if it comes with good advice that is scientifically backed.

Good! I'm glad you see this. Sadly many do not.
