Hello MFP!

Since i've lost weight, i haven't bought ANY new clothes. At all. When i first started losing weight i was 5'4 and 136 pounds and about 32% body fat.

Three years later (this month!) lots of heavy lifting i am now about 118 and 18% body fat. I still wear the same clothes and my style has been described as "frumpy". I literally wear a pair of jeans (size 6-8) when i wear a size 00-0-1-3 depending on the brand. I still wear a medium/large unfitted t-shirt; even though i SHOULD now wear a size small. I also wear a HUGE oversized unfitted hoodie/jacket. Oh, and converse. everyday.

below is an example:

CA0E0856-B0BC-48E2-8320-CEDDB016356F-17914-00001AAAF343914B_zpsbf8afd24.jpg

here's how my actual figure looks.... someone made me dress up, and i felt stupid unflattered and ridiculous

x195.jpg

I am now looking for a job, and, damnit i have no idea how to dress my body! I feel like i'm still hiding underneath all my clothes and im afraid to show off the body i've worked for. i've never been girly and i have no idea what looks good on me/what doesnt.

=/

Can someone please design a wardrobe for me? Just for fun! I'd be interested how other people would dress my figured. :D

My measurements are 34, 24, 36. I believe i'm a "pear shape".

Limit 1000$.

WOO HOO!!! Maybe this'll give some girls with the same situation to stop being ashamed of their body! :)

Also, if someone wants to nominate me for any of those style shows, i'm free game. :P

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have as well.

What sort of industry are lookng for a job in? That will dictate much of the style you should aim for.

Also - have you had you colours done? Are you a Spring, Autumn etc?
  • Everybody is different, but I love a woman in chucks. You're a beautiful girl, you can pull off wearing whatever you like. Stop tripping about it.

I work in a professional environment (think paralegal, legal assistant, etc.).

BUT it will be business-casual. So don't be afraid to put items that are kind of young and fun (im only 22 darnit!).

I have no idea what colors i would be or how to have that tested. all items in my warddrobe are blue, black, grey, or dark purple.

VS sells really great fitting pants suits. I like their pants because the inseams come in shorter styles. The jacket I did have to take to the tailor to have the sleeves taken in, but that is pretty normal for me as I am pretty short.

When I worked for the USDA and had to dress up everyday, I bought most of my work clothes from New York & Company. They also have shorter inseams. They have a lot of shirts that have that nice waist curve that makes you look slimmer as well (not that you need it).

If you shop New York & Co during a sale the clothes can be pretty inexpensive.

I thought you were talking about day to day. Don't give up the chucks on your leisure time, damnit! But yeah, I'll leave the fashion advice to the females.

looking at new york & co. silly question, whats the difference between a camisole, blouse, shirt, or tee. O_o

I'd start with a great trouser suit (pant suit if you're in the US)

Given the limited info I have on your colouring, I'd say a charcoal grey. Slim fitting, single breast (even just single button) jacket, with slightly flared trousers.

I'd buy 2 or 3 tops to go with that - a drapey cream Grecian style, a bright purple silk one, and a pale mint one. Not too T-shirty casual, choose a good quality material, and dont be afraid of going fitted rather than loose.

Shoes - heels that will go with teh trousers, plus a pair of heeld ankle boots.

A dress that goes with the jacket.

A more casual jacket/ caridagn that can be worn with the trousers or the dress.

A good quality scarf in colours that pick up all the other colours in the wardrobe.

I suck at fashion. Just making a useless comment to say that I wore that dress to prom in 1993.

Camisole usually goes under a blouse or shirt if it is sheer or you want to leave it unbuttoned. It can also be worn under a suit jacket. However, some of the camisoles can be worn alone, but probably not to work without a jacket. Shirts category will probably have button down shirts. Tees are t-shirt material.

The shirt I got the most compliments on at work (from women and men) was this:

I had it in purple pinstripe, but it looks like they don't make it anymore. I love the style though because it stays perfectly tucked in. No worries about it pulling out funny. Always looks fantastic with dress pants. I actually paired it with dress pants from New York & Co.

I have a pear shape also, I find for me- High waisted skirts with fitted blouses work great. Or a dress that compliments your mid-section. As a pear with have the gift of having a nice waist line. So flaunt it girl!

I am pear shaped too, but high-waist looks horrible on me because I am short and have a short torso. I suggest going in and trying on different combinations to see what looks best on you. If you buy a suit set off the wrack, I would definitely have it fitted by a tailor. It will be worth the extra money even if it is an inexpensive suit.

    I'm OBSESSED with NY&Co.

I also really love Loft and Banana Republic and White House Black Market (a little pricier).

I'm 25 so not much older than you.

You can also get on pinterest and there's a women's fashion category and I use that all the time to look at pictures people have posted from fashion clothes to find out where people are shopping for the styles I like :)

With $1,000 dollars you'd do okay at Nordstrom. They have stylists that are free. If you're smart you'll get their credit card to take advantage of their points program and then just pay it off with your $1,000. They will hook you up. Just tell them what you said here about the job and stuff. If you go during their sale days you'lll get more but you can also buy "pre-sale" from them so ask about that too when you are there. Good luck. Happy new wardrobing! :flowerforyou:

If it were me and I had a job, I'd get one or two pencil skirts. Skinny trousers in a similar color. 3 silk tops or similar. 1 or 2 shell tops. One tailored jacket that went with the bottoms. I'd get them all in similar or coordinating colors for ease of matching and dressing in the morning. I don't mean monochromatic per se, but just mixy matchy with a color scheme that all works together.

Thank you all so much! :) I HATE shopping and trying clothes on in general. I always feel silly in clothes even if I'm told they look fine.

I guess I really need to get out there and try some stuff on!
