That's 2 kilos per week. Is it safe and sensible - "hard work" might indicate ortherwise - what's your height and current weight, and calorie intake? However, if you have just started, the first week often gives you a water weight drop, so your "real" loss would have been lower.9

So you lost 8.5kg in a month.... Not a day.
What was your calorie intake?4 -

Some people seem to carry considerably more pre-diet water weight than others. My BiL is one of them. He will cut out sugary drinks every couple of years and lose 20lbs or more in a month. It has to be mostly water because he certainly doesn't starve himself.

Yes, in a month I can see. The wording of the title at first glance appears to imply OP lost 8.5 kg in a day, although the post clarifies. I was just having funsies
I'm always kind of jealous of the people who shed water weight like that. I know it just means they were carrying more to begin with, but the huge scale movements are mind-boggling to me. My fluctuations are much more limited.8 -

When I first started here my first month was 20 lbs. And then pretty much nothing, because I was lying to myself about how active I was and how much I was eating. But that first month though...3 -

I know you know. That was one of those posts that was more for the OP and other people reading than it was for the person I quoted.
While I am sure it was a mistake in wording I love slightly misleading thread titles. My last one got locked.

When I first started, I lost 20lbs the first 2 months and then 10lbs the 3rd and 4th. But that was from drastically limiting my calories (under medical guidance) in order to have surgery.
20lbs loss can be just water weight? Wow2 -
I thought questions were going to be answered.3
