I had a physical a couple of months ago and my A1C is pre diabetic range. My doctor suggested I loose weight to lower the number.

Hi, I have type 2 diabetes and what has been helpful for me has been to cut down on carbs, drastically reduce added sugar, and eat more vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, beans and pulses, fish, dairy, and leaner meats, sugar free drinks and more water. It's been very tough for me to cut added sugar from my diet, and it's taken a year since my diagnosis to settle into a pattern of healthier eating. At first I tried to cut out everything I enjoyed in one fell swoop, but that didn't work. It wasn't until I gave myself permission to have whatever I wanted that I found I didn't really want that much of the sugary, carb laden food. That made it easier to make more nutritious choices, and to fit in foods I liked in moderation. The weight loss was more of a consequence of changing what I ate, but now I eat with a view to both losing weight and managing my diabetes, as the two are obviously interconnected. If you want quick or drastic weight loss I would say ask your doctor for a supervised diet plan. What's working for me is slow and steady weight loss, but you have to find the method that suits you, so ask around in the forms and do a bit of research yourself.
