Lacking motivation

I competed in a fitness comp April this year and since then haven't really trained as hard as before. I know it's totally normal for this to happen, but I like routine. For the past couple of years I've been weighing my food and training hard. Now I don't have an end goal I'm really struggling. I'm trying to get my gym motivation back but finding it hard. Anyone been through the same thing?

I would have to say that motivation is entirely 100% an inside job.

It's pretty common to relax after a competition, but five months seems a long time. You're still going to the gym or working out?

No one can maintain a pre-competition level of intensity forever I wouldn't think.

Maybe come up with a new, different challenge for yourself. A triathlon or a distance bike event for charity or something.

Just need to decide what you want to do next to give yourself a new goal to aim for.

Sounds like you have a little post competition blues, which is normal when you work hard to achieve that kind of goal.

The key that can help will be to set new goals for yourself. It can be fitness, strength, muscle gain, etc. You have to find something that you can work towards and will keep you pushing yourself.

If you find yourself still struggling with post comp feelings and how to mentally cope with getting back to healthy bodyfat levels, talking to your coach can help, if possible as well as speaking to other competitors who have been through it.

    Good luck!

Maybe a training buddy? Not sure what you mean by 'not training as hard'. Are you still going to the gym? Do you train solo? Do you know any of the other competitors? What are they doing now?

Find new motivation. Come up with a new goal. Figure out a new activity or way of training that you enjoy more.
