Has anyone experienced this while dieting(lowering calorie intake) with minimally lowering your carb intake?

Only when I eat walnuts. Maybe it’s an allergy?6

That’s what I was thinking. I’m eating more nuts than usual. It’s not cold sores, canker sores or thrush. It’s really weird. I’ve had it happen before but don’t remember the timing or curcumstsnces at the time.0

Look through your diary and see if you can pinpoint what you ate differently when this occurs.
Nuts are a definite contender, as are some fresh fruits.
It could also be an ingredient in something that is prepackaged that you are not aware of.

Yes, sounds very much like an allergy. Fortunately your food diary can help you figure out foods that might have caused it. I would start by removing any foods from your diet that you only started eating, or started eating in larger quantities, around the time the swelling began. Then you can reintroduce those foods one at a time to see if you can pinpoint the problem (unless you're having any trouble breathing, in which case go straight to the doctor). If that doesn't help, you can see your doctor for an allergy test.1

If not a food allergy, it could be hay fever. When my allergies are bad, that happens to me1 -
Walnuts, Mango, and fresh (but not canned) pineapple are the culprits for me. It's actually how my walnut allergy started and then progressed...I was told by a paramedic if it had continued it could have led to anaphylaxis. I'd advise to try to find your allergy source so you can eliminate it.1

Good thinking. I'm not an allergy person, except for bugs and wasps, but my DiL has to watch a number of foods for mild mouth swelling, and, now you come to mention it pollens too at different times of the year.

I've not had it, but it sure sounds like an allergy.1

I agree it could be an allergy, especially if you have changed toothpaste or been trying new foods. Something else it could be is glossitis from a B12 deficiency. Look at this link....https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin-b12-deficiency-symptoms#section5
Either way you should probably speak to your doctor about it.

I get something similar. I assumed dehydration. Now I need to start checking what foods I've eaten that might cause an allergic reaction.1

You really need to get this evaluated medically right away. If your tongue swells , it’s very possible that next time the reaction could move further down your throat potentially suffocating you. That’s what anaphylaxis is. The doctor can give you an antidote keep on hand in case this happens before you figure out the exact cause. Do not mess around thinking you will solve this yourself or with the help of internet strangers.6

I would contact your doctor. My tongue sometimes gets sore and I find that making sure to take my muilti for a few days makes it go away. I've always assumed it was a vitamin deficiency. It starts for me when I wake up in the AM, not when I've been eating.
I do get a reaction to fresh (not canned) pineapple. I've never been tested for food allergies, but I hope it doesn't mean I'll have a sudden allergic reaction to something else (besides fresh pineapple) like nuts or something. Maybe I should bring that up to my doctor too.
ETA: Oh good, oral allergy syndrome related to pineapply rarely leads to anaphylaxis. That is the type of reaction I have. Also I'm allergic to pollen but I'm not sure which, apparently birtch is related to pineapple1 -
Pineapple does it to me. I love pineapple, but I can't eat much of it.
Cashews make me quite congested and make me feel nauseated after about a handful of them. I love cashews, but I can only have a very small amount of them.1 -
happened to me with shredded cheese. Turns out most have saw dust...who knew...Its actually in alot of food its kind of been a difficult one >.< Thats just my way of saying sounds like an allergy, As thats mine lol2

I get those with arugula - that means I don't usually eat salad out of home, because most of the restaurant ones have it.1
-
Hope this settled down, but it sounds like you should see an allergist and get tested. I had a similar reaction after drinking 20 oz of soy milk, ended up in the local ER despite taking an antihistamine, saw an allergist later and was diagnosed as having a true soy allergy. I have used my EpiPen 2x in the past 2-3 years. Food allergies can be very serious as others have said.2

Thank you everyone for your replies and insight.1

If you track down the cause, or already have, please update.
