What happens after newbie gains?

I am currently on starting strength programme and heading towards phase 2 where I add in the power clean. I think I probably have another week before the deadlifts are to much to recover from 3x a week. My question is when I have taken advantage of all newbie gains and I want to get stronger will this require building muscle/heading into a bulk/eating at maintenance? Current diet allow for 1/2 loss each week.

If you are cutting, you can move to a more advanced program that allows for more accessory work to help increase volume.

But in some aspects, there will be plateaus until you can add more calories or more mass.

You can gain strength with SS while losing weight, especially if you were untrained when you started. You just won't run it as long as if you were in a surplus, which is fine really.

.5lb loss isn't anything substantial to worry about. Make sure you are getting your rest and your form is improving and the numbers will go up until they don't.

Generally it's recommended to take a deload only once, mayyyybe twice. Personally I found with the people I train on that LP just to move onto more advanced programming.

From there I put lifters on "The Bridge" which is a no brainer for post novice. I've yet to find a person who didn't respond very well to it. Though like all programs, not everybody will thrive...it's individual based on how they respond.
